I am in need of some advice regarding hourly pay for a new grad registered nurse with a BSN degree. According to the bureau of labor and statistics website, the average wage for RNs in my area is about $33/hour. That being said, what can a new grad expect to make? I don't want to go into an interview and be laughed at or be "taken." Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

Here in the south, working nights you start at about $30/hr...but the day shift is a little less...so you should check on a website of the hospital you want to work at and sometimes the site has an average starting pay and you get shift diff..or talk to a nurse and find out the starting pay

Well I am from Mississippi and new graduates start of with $18.95 for first shift and if you work evening and nights its a differential of $2 to $5. It is not worth it. We put in so much work and i know people who did not attend a four year college and they are making $18.00!

What sort of program did they attend in order to receive the same rate as those who did?

I am from Wisconsin and am also wondering what the new grads start out at. What do you think about working for a traveling company as a new grad nurse? Would it be better to get experience in a hospital setting prior to working for any of the companies?
