Am I the only one that is apprehensive & has reservations about giving so much personal info on this site to become a "verified nurse"?

  1. I have been a member of nursing link since August 2007 a few months before I graduated LPN school and received my license. Although I understand the desire to verify that people are who they claim to be, I am not comfortable giving out my license number and personal information.  I worked very hard to Earn my license and am working hard to Earn my ASN, RN degree.  I would hate to think anything I might post on this or any other site might come back and hurt my license. So NO! I will not give this information to become a verified nurse on nursing link. I am protective of my license.

  2. Anyone who feels comfortable doing this, it is your business and I don't have a problem with that.  However, I do not feel that the internet is such a safe haven, that I am willing to put that information out there to have access to what has become basically a game playing site.  I enjoy the forums, I enjoy the news articles. I don't enjoy the fact that too much of the content is game driven.

  3. Not sure at this time if I will continue on nursing link or not. It may be time to terminate my account. Guess I need to think about that one .

  4. Hope all of you, nurses active and retired, nursing students, and those thinking about nursing have a Happy Holiday Season.

I think I'll decline participation in the "nurses only" discussions.  I'll keep my license to myself, thank you.

Every time you hit send on any page, that is http and not https, that's is sending personal information, etc, it travels on aver to 15=20  servers, before it gets to its destination. Each of those servers is also taalking to 10's of servers. Your personal information can ultimatelybe excesssible by hundreds of thousand of sere in plain ,unencrypted text. This is only the beginning, you will be giving your identity out to thousands of people... This information says this "idea" is like an std, 15x15x15x15 etc. If you don't underswtand me please ask me and I'll explain again. My husband is part of many mutibillion dollar companies and he said this is ludecrus and extre3mely dangerous. I pass on being a verified nurse to keep what identity I have safe. We already publish to much on this site, with names ,birthdates and oplaces that we live. The internet is a dangerous place and if you value you identity and hard work, you to will refuse to give anymore to this unsecured site.... Please practice safe computing.. If not it spreads just like an STD... TeresahRN

I had originally thought I would like the idea of the "verified nurse" section of this site but after reading comments and thinking carefully about the dangers of this I do NOT want to participate with this in anyway and am also going to be cancelling my account with this group as well.  Asking us for that kind of information is dangerous and risky to those of us who have worked hard and are continuing to work hard as a nurse.  I'm currently working on advancing my degree and don't want to put any of that in jeopardy.

While I have thoroughly enjoyed this site and have gotten a lot of good tips and advice from articles and other who use this site, I am no longer comfortable being a part of the nursing link community.

I wish you well.

VERIFY THIS.....ACCOUNT CANCELED......I will go back to the previous site I was using. Networking on this "SITE" has become too expensive.

Seriously? Why is everyone freaking out about this? Nobody is FORCING you to become a verified nurse, are they? It's totally optional. You can still use NursingLink without being a verified nurse and giving that information away.... although FYI giving your license number isn't a violation of privacy, it's publicly available for search in the nursing registry. So if you REALLY ARE a nurse, you have nothing to worry about!

They asked not only for my license number, but my work information and went as far as to ask for my supervisor and work email. No it isnt required but still seems gutsy. And yes as they told us, they could look us up themselves with our state of licensure and first and last names. Truth although that may be, it doesn't make sense to me to have that information including my birthdate and address and phone number in their database and not have any way of ensuring it is not misused or appropriated for marketing or illegal access.

Just my 2 cents worth. Make your own decision. Just remember, that just because some of us choose not to share everything, doesn't mean we aren't Real Nurses. We are just Real Careful Nurses.

I'm curious... are you all on Facebook? Think about it. That site knows EVERYTHING about you. I don't think knowing the name of your supervisor could help a site market to you, but knowing your relationship status, your likes and disklikes, and your wherabouts (a la Facebook) can. Did you know that every site you visit can collect information on where you've been online and use that to market to you?

What's all the fuss about verified status? I hardly think this is the biggest of your online worries.

Awaiting verification,

Chris

Just an FYI............anyone can (and probably has) access your license information, #, and the threats against it (such as if the board every reviewed you for any reason and the out come)..........all you need is your name and place that you live, and then presto!  it is right there because it is public knoweledge and posted on the computer (you just have to know where to look).

I am not trying to encourage or discourage anyone, but I just thought I would let you know that just because you don't give this information out does not mean that people don't have access to it.

Take care and Happy New Year!
