I am about stressed to the max with all the changes in Medicare. I feel I am being buried in paperwork. Who had the nerve to call it an OASIS anyway?

Yes Medicare sucks and just about every insurance does. But about Home Health Care it is the best and now a days our older generation our parents are more willing to have home health care than to be in a facility. But there are also alot of free programs that they can quilify for its just finding it and when they try to pas the buck you say I want to speak to some one else.

I agree that home health is the way of the future for health care, although it is burning out nurses with all of paperwork. I know alot of agencies are converting to computer charting but I haven't figured out how they use it in the home along with all of the other baggage we drag into the homes, and sometimes I go into homes that I can't even sit down d/t clutter let alone put a computer down to chart. I am often balancing my sterile dressings on my small, dental drape to keep things clean.

My agency computerized about 9 years ago. It was so nice. I was called the clip queen. The program then would let you clip and paste ie drsg procedures iv procedures. I had detailed clips for med inst and it was wonderful. Then the format was changed and the nurses got so far behind we went back to paper for our notes. The oasis and verbal orders are still done on the computer... but not in the home of course. When the stupid thing takes 20minutes to boot up and get in the program! By then the battery is almost dead.lol

If something is not done about the paperwork "GLUT" there will be no nurses willing to admit and care for medicare patients. CJRN speaks about the problem with computer "paperwork" it is no savings in either time or effort. I just moved to the Florence, S.C. area. Does anybody know of a Medicare Agency in that area.

I love home health when I worked there I did not allways have to stay for a long time and the CNA/LVN/RN we all went in one car and worked together started off early and finished alot faster team work rilly works. My opinion dont take computer in to the homes take it down on a paper then transfer to a computer and take turns driveing work as a team the day will go a lot better for all of you.

I too am a home health case manager. The Oasis is long and tedious. Even doing an Oasis on the computer is time consuming although it is faster. Medicare has changed a lot of things this year. It is becoming more and more focused on the Oasis for payment to the agency. How do you guys who do pay per visit make any money? I am thinking of going to PPV that is why I ask.

I live in a rural area and I know some nurses who do PPV. I have compared and can't see any way they can come out ahead if they have to do oasis data collection. The ones I know don't get paid for any paperwork or mileage and we all know gas is only going to continue to get more expensive. I am by the hour and plan to stay that way. I suppose if your agency is in a city and the patients are very close together it might work. I suggest you ask alot of questions before you go PPV.

I have tried electronic Oasis now and it really IS faster, you check boxes and when you save it you can use same doc to do DC oasis just change a few dates and facts and your done, it is very cool and DOES save time.
