Posted over 2 years ago Hello~ I am a nursing student in NYC, and currently finished Med surg 1 and going onto Med surg 2. I am still not sure what I want to specialize in, and I am really interested in obtaining a BSN. If anyone can offer me advice on what to specialize in, it would be really helpful. I hope to make many friends and connections in this forum
Thank You. My Blog-

Posted over 2 years ago Well what's so good about nursing is how you have so many opportunities available...maybe too many :) So don't worry too much about specializing because you will get a great variety of experiences in your nursing education...I didn't know I loved the ER until my last year of college and that was based on past experiences from working on the floor. need student nurse help or nursing resources? visit www.nursingelement.com, see ya there!

Posted over 2 years ago Your main concern at this point is to learn as much as you can and to survive nursing school. Look around you while you are in clinical and be open to learning about all areas of nursing. Surprisingly, your options when the time presents itself will depend mainly on what jobs are offered to you.

Posted about 2 years ago Hello fellow student! I am about to go into MedSurg 1 in April. I'm also at a loss as to what specialty I would like to get into. There isn't much room for work in Florida as a LPN with the exception of nursing homes, ALS & hospice. Hospitals are making the LPN obsolete, this is forcing me to spit out anouther $10k at the least to get my RN which I have to be an Associates before I'm even considered! Another thing is the MedVance & Keiser schools are getting sued by former students because of their high tuition, no job placement & nobody wants to hire them due to the lack of education they received in several areas. So I'm not sure where to turn to after my class is over either!

Posted about 2 years ago I also am wondering what to specialize in. My top picks are either in a pediatritian office or OB/GYN office. I'd prefer not to work ER, but I'll do whatever I can when I get out of school. JRMAVRAK1--- I also live in Florida. My sister-in-law is a LPN and she has an incredibly good job. She travels to people's homes to take care of them. She's a home health nurse. They pay her 50 cents per mile plus her normal pay. When she worked in the hospital she got paid her base pay and then extra for being shift leader. I don't know what part of Florida you live in, put jobs are good here. Good luck on finding a job and with school!!

I agree with you. I'm not too worried about what I'll do because I know it will be good. |
