Posted over 2 years ago Hi guys, love the site so far! Anyways my question, do you guys recommend i become a etm/cna/lvn/lpn prior to going to a RN program? I'm currentlly going to De Anza's Nursing Program. It's very competitive! I am trying to find tips/guidelines to help me have better chances in getting into a nursing program. I have no experience whats so ever in nursing.
Thank you,

| Posted over 2 years ago Thanks for the links!!! Now my other question, is it better to be a LPN first then do the LPN- RN Bridge path? Or don't waste money on a vocational school and just go the RN path after i complete what's needed to apply to the nursing program. I know thanks!! |

| Posted over 2 years ago There are many paths to the same place. What is best for one person, is not best for another. All educational ventures are totally individualized. I suggest you weigh out advantages and disadvantages of all possible paths for you. It would be good to talk to the counselor at the school you are going to be attending. In this case, I don't believe any choice is a wrong choice, as long as it is right for you. I will say that Nursing Link had an interesting article on the subject of LPN's recently: http://nursinglink.monster.com/news/articles/21243-lpns-vanishing-from-hospital-settings Joyce Harrell, RN, OCN

| Posted over 2 years ago Dont do it. Aim higher. Become a PA-C or some other profession that doesn't suck the marrow out of you like nursing. As a nurse you have little to no credibility with DR's and you are basically the whipping boy (no pun intended) for everything and I mean everything that goes on with your patients. Forget all the altruistic crap they tell you in school because it just isnt true. Lastly good luck finding a nursing job cuz there arent too many out there......... |

| Posted over 2 years ago Thank you for those very encouraging words here on the forum, Rondodondo. There are many ways of saying similar things. We are all here to be an encouragement to the others. There are up and down sides to all situations. I am sorry you have chosen to stay working in an area that has sucked the marrow out of you. With all the choices in nursing today, maybe there is a field of nursing that is a better fit where you could feel a sense of accomplishment. Joyce Harrell, RN, OCN
