Posted over 5 years ago So, yesterday, i had an epidural/steroid injection block done on my lumbar region of my back to help stop the pain I am cause by my 2 herniated disks! I went in to this dr.'s office scared to death cause I hate needles!! and because his is such a sensitive area to have an injection. i have had 1 epidural and 2 spinal blocks when i had my children and tht scared me! so, to have this done as a pain relieving measure i figured this would work based onmy experience with the previous injections. first of all, i love this dr.! he is very patient, intelligent, and has a humerous side! So, when i go in they offer me a valium, and of course i took it!who wouldn't right? they have me lie on my stomach, shirt up butt all exposed, which also being the most painful position i can lay. the most painful part of the procedure was the lidocaine! i was amazed! and of course being the curious natured person i am had to watch! (which i still cant believe i did) he used xray to guide the needle to the exact position, a contrast to make sure he was in the epidural space (which also showed my LARGE herniation at L4-L5) then put in the medicine. OMG WOW! It didnt relly hurt, but thhe pressure was just unbelievable!! my butt went instantly numb, my right leg too. most amazing feeling!! no more pain! now remember, i could hardly walk when i walked into the office! they put some pressure over the area, bandaided me up, sat me up and walked me to the room with the lounge chair, let me sit for about 10 minutes and sent me on my way. do you know this is the first time i have been able to stand up straight, with out being in pain, for weeks on end? i am absolutely amazed by the instant relief! now i am just curious to see how long this will last. i get another injection in 2 weeks and then a 3rd 2 weeks after that. he says that this will last me about 6 months. andhe hopes with me having pain relief and a decrease in inflammation will help my herniation kind of heal. but we will see. i am also curious to see how long it is going to take for me to start eating percocets again. is there anyone out there that has had this done also, and would like to giveme some info on how well it worked for you and how long? |
