" LPNs are trained differently, with a particular focus in mind, however they are licensed by the state and abide by their legalities,

as per job description, governed by the state's commonwealth. I've worked with numerous nurses for many years and I've learned to,

" turn a deaf ear," when it comes to those who," rant, rave and disrespect others",without viewing the whole picture.

It is wise to respect all healthcare workers for their jobs and learn to be grateful, giving credit where / when it is due.

We give respect to all patient that we care for, that is our job and we are proud of our accomplishments."

Dont feel bad I had the same experience when I was an LPN. I worked at a hosp on a very tough surgical telemetry floor for 3.5 years and, no joke, I heard that crap  all the time from the other nurses despite the fact that I was more capable than a lot of the RN's there. I was always told by them "you're not even a nurse". Nice huh? Now that Im an RN (assoc) I still heat "oh you're only an associate degree RN".  Frankly thats whats wrong with nursing and why we are looked at so poorly by our peers. When will I ever be enough of a nurse for you? Does it take a Masters degree or higher?  Please dont pay attention to them. They are wrong and petty individuals that are unhappy with their own lot in life so they go after what they see as the weakest link. You are a nurse, you went to school and you passed a licensening exam and dont let anyone tell you any different....rondo

Romdo. I comepletly agree with you.. It's usually the people that are either intimidated or just plain unhappy with themselves that put others down for their own sake.. I say don't listen and just be the best nurse that you can be. A degree is wonderful but that to doesn't make a nurse..Teresa

Yes, please do not feel you are not a nurse. My best lessons on caring for someone at the bedside came from 2 LPN's who had been nurses for years. They were great!

I agree also about why people put others down. People generally put others down because it makes them feel better about their own insecurities.

Oh please,if LPN's weren't real nurses ,then why do they do the same things RN's do? And why do they sit for state boards? People need to remember there's no "i" in team..There is certanlly enough work to go around for every one...Teresa

As an ophthalmology tech in Hospitals, private practices and now a Surgical center ( 12 years ), I have had the privelage of working with many fine nurses ( both LPN and RN ) and Mds.  Truly the best patient care was given by those not hung up on titles and into our profession because they truly care about our patients. I have been called nurse and doctor  over the years and my response is ussually something like this ' oh thank you but my name is Dave and Im a technician not a nurse/doctor' the reply back from my patients is ussually " you seem just like... thank you so much". That is my reward, not a title.

Most of our patients are into genuine concern for there care and nothing else.

If I ever get the chance to, i will go back to school and 'earn' one of those titles, but never to be hung up on it, only to better serve

thank you to Dr. Joe for introducing me to medical care.

You are every bit of a nurse as an RN with an associates degree, or BSN degree! I am with everyone else, some nurses need to get over themselves and their "titles". Without LVN/LPN, and CNA's their jobs would be a lot tougher! You are the backbone to the RN's. Dont ever feel any less of a nurse just because you are a LVN.

I am a medical assistant and CNA and I love what I do. I am taking classes for my GE with pre-req's for nursing. I am probably 3 years away from applying to nursing schools. I also start volunteering at a hospital this October in the ER/Surgery. I am so excited and honored to work with LVN/ and RN's. The Title shouldn't be why you go into the profession of nursing. It should be because you want to give professional and compassionate care to patients that they deserve.

I have the upmost respect for all Nurses..and yes LVN's are nurses ! Period!  Hang in there, and don't let them get you down. Keep smiling and focus on the patients. They are just unhappy with themselves, or maybe even their jobs.

Best,

Cari

Cari, Some times people become so full of themselves that they just are thinking about themself and how important they are.. Don't fall into that trap. I always covered up my last name and titles with cute little stickers..I'll bet you the patient will remember the kind of care they have redeived, instead of who was the nurse.. Teresa

LPN are REAL NURSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so tired of hearing real nurse, what does that mean???????? Whether you're a RN or LPN, you work for the benefit of your pts!!!!!!!!!!! I think that if I actually heard someone say that STUPID comment I would have to seriously consider decking that person!!!!! I know how it sounds, but let's just stick with helping our pts, not letting titles go to your damn head!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sorry if my cuss word may offend some people, but that's how I feel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have heard that so many times, especially when I was in nursing school..."Oh you're just an LPN student!" That irritates me so much. I can do pretty much anything an RN can do minus pushing some meds through IVs and doing blood transfusions. Everything else, I can do. I love where I work, I work with nothing but LPNs! I work in a skilled unit for rehabilitation. I just started, but even the RNs who are overseeing from a management point of view are very respectful. Just ignore people who say things like that, they are usually unhappy with their job or themselves anyway!!!

Alib2012, I certainly feel the same way.. Besides, isn't it what we think of ourselves and not what others think of us? All areas of the medical field are so important.. We all have a very special job to do.. Or at least we should...Hugs,Teresa

I think the titles with nurses need to be further distinguished. To say that LPNs are the same as RNs is ridiculous! Plus LPNs in most settings can NOT DO what RNs do, thier scope of practice is less than a RNs scope.  It is fair that a RN gets paid more than an LPN, becuase we spend more time on our education. I think that if a person in the same field has more education they DESERVE to get paid more ecspecially if thier legal obligations are bigger.  I am not saying LPNs work less and are not dedicated. I am just tired of all nurses being lumped into the same group. Nurses should be given thier just due for the work they have put in to get the degrees they have. Should a CNA be put in the same group as an NP and should they both get paid the same?
