Is there a difference between the title MSN and NP? Do I need to get my MSN before I get NP?

An MSN is a Masters of Science in Nursing. A Nurse Practiioner is usually a Master's level program. I do hear in the future, a doctorate will be entry for an NP. An NP is a Master's prepared nurse. However not all MSN program are NP programs.
