Finding a job with warning with stipulations on your license

Posted over 2 years ago PLEASE ADVICE!!! I have a warning with stipulation on my license for an honest mistake in 2009, which my peer review board felt that the hospital I worked for at the time felt that there"were factors beyond the nurse's control that contribute my mistake. They also "felt the nurse should have received progressive counseling in her first three months in scanning of medications. I was a travel nurse for four years and had never scanned medication before, since I had worked for this hospital in 2006 as a travel nurse, at which time they did not scan their medications, I was not given a normal orientation to the unit. This hospital was out of control I felt that the patients and my license was in danger, I was actively looking for a job when my mistake happened. The problem now is that the Chief Nurse Officer disagreed with the peer review and sent my scanning errors to the BON. I finally received my warning with stipulation after fourteen months. I need a job and I have applied for so many jobs on line for the last two months with no job offers. I have been an RN for sixteen years and am very proud of my job. Please does any one have any advice on how to get a job with stipulations on their license.

Posted over 2 years ago Can you not appeal the BON decision to allow these stipulations? Can you not have this removed with legal help?

Posted over 2 years ago I do not know where to start. I worked for a hospital for fourteen months and the CNO (not a nice person) fired me because "we do not what to comply to the BON stipulations. I have spoken with a lawyer that a Dr. from the hospital referred me to but have not meet with him yet. I have been gathering information for him.

Posted about 2 years ago I have a similar situation. This month April 2011, I just recieved warning with stipulation from BON for 18 months ago about single minor incident. The incident happened on July 2009, my supervisor called me at home claimed that 2 months ago I wrote the unverified order to hold (lovenox and ASA) blood thinner medications for preoperatively for the pt that schedule for surgery in the following morning. It was 2 months ago order and they called me at home without seeing the order. I had the hospital peer review and the comittee agreed that it was a single minor incident with no harm to pt, but the new CNO was very very terrible. He reports me to BON and now, 18 monts later, I am unemployment and could not get any job interview. I may have to say goodbye for my nursing career. It is very depress because I have been a nurse for only almost 7 years.

Posted about 2 years ago Check with the American Nurses Association and maybe Google to see if Nurse/Lawyers are organized in any manner. ANA is supposed to be on your side as far as any nursing issues. Do not know if they will take on BON's or not on specific cases. Good luck (I almost got screwed when floated to a Cancer Treatment Ward).

Posted about 2 years ago Very sad, why are nurses still treated so poorly. Would a teacher who made errors be treated that way? Would a Doctor or any other profession be treated that way. It seems that it is accecptable to ruin a nurses life to spare the hospital or nursing home.

Posted about 2 years ago I would attach a letter from the employer to your BON. It would save time and aggravatin retelling it ll of the time..Best of Luck, Teresa

Posted almost 2 years ago I know there are many nurses who have had an experience with license issues, I don't have this issue, if I did I would at least try to give this nurse some support and say something to help her feel better. Would someone PLEASE give her some support or is everyone running scared???
