I don't know what answer you are looking for.  Nurses fill a large variety of roles in healthcare.  In the nursing home setting, its everything from friend, caregiver, med giver, monitering  vitals and medical assessments.   In the hospital setting, its more of making sure that all orders are carried out in addition to assessments and primary care of the patient.  A lot of it depends on where you work, and what your position is.  A hospital staff nurses role differs from a DON in a nursing home.  I guess our 'primary aim' would be to provide quality healthcare to the best of our abilities to our patient....thats a very broad generalization however.

I also think the "aim" of nursing and healthcare has changed over the years. My "aim" of nursing is probably different than the polital aim of healthcare and nursing. I "aim" to bring education to nurses about getting back to what nursing was all about to begin with, and to teach nurses how to care and bring healing to people. (healing doesn't mean curing)

In a hospital setting, nurses are practicing in a medical framework, because there is essentially no autonomy, as it revolves around doing everything the physician dictates what we are to do.

So, I agree with Kittyrn, the question is too broad, and left open for too much interpretation.

The specific answer can depend on the viewpoint of the person asking the question.  Sounds like a broad topic for an essay for a school project.

I know the topic is quite open ended.

Thanks for sharing your views.

Just wanted to understand from different perspective what exactly nursing meant to each one of you.

" The primary goal of Nursing in the Healthcare Industry, today, is basically the same as it has been and

should always be....Treat the patient as a person, not a profile.Suprisingly enough, there are the relative few,

who do exist, that are,"there for the paycheck, personality, praise, pompousness, etc. however, the realism should be...
