Posted over 2 years ago Just curious here. What you do all think of night shift nursing assistants needing to do baths at night to take some load off of day shift? This is a recent issue I am currently putting my 2 cents in. I used to work in ICU and we would give patients baths at night. The holistic side of me has always cringed with this. I felt like there was too much stimulation and patients needed to continue some sort of pattern for the flow of the circadian rythym. I did it because this was accepting. Now, on a regular floor, what is your opinion about baths at night? Some of these patients may be comatose, and I would really hope alert and oriented patients would not be awakened. But what about those in between? How do you feel about frequent interruptions at night? Frequent vital signs, baths, early lab work (4:00 AM), etc? I realize in a hospital there are certain things that really need to be done. But if a patient is stable, I personally feel the best thing we can do is promote a haven of rest for them. What say ye?

| Posted over 2 years ago Having been a patient a few times. I say, No don't wake me.. I have trouble sleeping any way so if I am, Please don't wake me.. However, when you are sick enough to be in a hosp, remeber you are not on "vacation"..There are many things a patient needs, so Try to understand that tests, xrays, baths etc. are the reason you are in the hospital.. You always can sleep at home... |

| Posted over 2 years ago " This is a very interesting question with many answers to,but I one that I can relate to.Depending on the date,time,patient... **Waking patients for baths,necessary...pre-dialysis sessions, early pick-up,pre-op surgery prep-rescheduled, early scheduled discharge / transfer to LTC facility,PersonalCare Unit>scheduled prep for breakfast / early MD appointment. The most necessary..elevated temp with symptomatic ailment,( n/v/d), into the shower you go." |

PS I'm not the best patient. I think nurses could be a little kinder to the staff. Now I've never kicked any one out of my room however, Body language works great.. LOL Teresa
