Just wondering if anyone has any experience/information on this condition? I'm not a nephrology nurse, but a friend of mine has this calcium-related condition. I'm just wondering how concerned I should be.

VERY CONCERNED. When phosphorus and calcium are out of whack, bad things happen to skin and bone. Calciphylaxis will literally eat away the skin and bone of mostly the extremities, leaving wounds in their place. The cutaneous blood vessels calcify, followed by skin necrosis and sepsis. Mostly this disease is seen in ESRD patients who do not follow their dialysis prescription and/or renal diet. Because the kidneys are not doing their homeostatic job, the pt gets hypercalcemia, hyperphosphatemia, and their CaxP products are off the charts. I could quote a buch of websites, but that would be long winded. Do a Google of calciphylaxis, and a whole slew of websites appear. Good luck to your friend. I'm sorry I didn't have better news.
