I took my exam today and the computer shut off at 75 questions.. I am really nervous because the test was extremely difficult. every question I got was difficult. I had maybe a couple of easy ones.. it took me 2 hours and 20 minutes to finish..  Does anyone have any input

No worries, nat.  I passed NCLEX at 75 questions after 40 minutes.  Really scared me too, and I was an experienced LPN.  The exam uses a mathematical algorithm to evaluate your knowledge.  For every right answer, you get increasingly harder questions until you miss one.  Then they get easier until you start getting them right again.  The software focuses on your weak areas, and measures the peaks and valley's of right and wrong answers until it determines your competence.  That's why it doesn't hurt you to guess if you just don't know.

When I took my NCLEX a year ago, the computer sut off at 76 questions. I was so confused because it is either too goo or too bad. Fortunately, it was good and I passed the first attempt

I had 76 questions this time.  It was my second time taking the NCLEX.  The first time I was heart broken when I had all 265 questions and felt pretty good about it. I also was a good student in school and I knew several others that had passed their boards that I did better than in school so I felt ok about it during the 48 hr wait.  When I got my results though....I was "near to pass" in all areas so I didn't pass.  I went yesterday morning prepared to take all questions again.  I got to the magic question 75 and it went on to 76.  Deep down I did just want 75 questions because usually that is a good sign!  Well after I answered question 76 to my shock my computer shut off..........I just sat there like OH NO!!  But, after reading this post I fell better and see that it is possible to pass with 76.  I was thinking that was one of the "impossible" numbers to pass with.   You guys have given my some hope!  Thanks so much!

PURE JOY......I can't believe I passed with 76!!  To all out there don't think that 76,77,78 or even in the 80's is a bad number for the computer to shut off on!!  I had several friends in school with low numbers and so far they have all passed!!  Good luck to everyone with the "wonderful" NCLEX!!!!

When I took the LPN nclex  I took the minimum 85 questions and passed.  When I took the RN exam I again took the minimum 75 questions and passed.  I was told the first time when I took my lpn nclex by the guy at the testing center that usually people who take the minimum pass.  Now it does mean you still could have flunked but more people pass at that amount of question than fail.

One more think I was taught by a friend who took a review course- was that when the questions start asking about diseases you have never heard of then you are at a high level and have passed.  Remember your last question and look it up to see if you got it right or wrong- if you got it wrong than you probably flunked if you got it right you passed- another thing the teacher told her.  However when it shuts off at 75 exactly that doesn't hold true because you could have already made your passing level but had to take the mandatory 75 questions.

Lawsy.............why am I not surprised!  I have always been so jealous of people who test like that !  Its amazing how that dang machine can find your 'weak areas'........................the majority of my test was labor and delivery <ick>.I'll take sucking chest wounds any time.

I have no personal experience, but my friends passed it.  1 friend had a 95 and the other had an 85.  I have to say that both of them had called me and thought that they had failed it and admitted to crying on the way home.  They went home and checked the Internet site to find by the second or third day that they had passed.  Just stay positive, negative ideas can lead to nervous tension.  The nervous tension can rob you of some information you may need to answer the questions correctly.  Good luck (but I am sure you will do fine.)

i took my exam last Monday. Nov.3, 2008. I got 76 questions and it stopped. My heart was beating too fast and I was just numb and don't know what to do and what to say and how I'd react.  have been taking this exam. for quite some time now- I usually stopped for a few months, then a year. This is my 4th. I feel so anxious, my friends have all passed and are nurses now. Last Monday, i tried to remain my cool even when i know--it's not cool!!!! So, now i am just waiting for the result. A lot of people are praying for me. Sometimes...I t's hard to believe , that i can still do it. Computer shutting off at 76 is no help at all...I am just praying that I pass it. I need it to lift my self-esteem, that this NCLEX stole from me.Does anybody pass getting 76 items?? i wonder....just waiting for what the result will be. GOODLUCK to everybody taking NCLEX.

Hey suave, YES take some kind of review course, get a review book and do the question with friends, pay attention to why you get questions wrong in school, etc. Prepare, prepare, prepare.

I passed at 75 questions in 2005 and was glad it didn't last longer.  I looked at it this way - I did my best and it's not if I pass it's when I pass.

My husband passed his NCLEX and it shut off at 75-78 questions.  He thought for sure that he "bombed" it.  In fact, he said that they got a break and when he came back from the break he only had one more question before it cut off.

I just took the NCLEX-RN exam and I didn't pass at 76 questions .  I know it has nothing to  do with my nursing abilities or how I will be as a nurse.  I just got flustered and didn't prepare enough, i guess.  Not the end of the world, there is always next time.

Nkdwalker; that means one of two things, one that you answered enough questions right in all areas that there is no need to continue and hence you pass, and the other is if you failed in one area, then you have failed the test and there is no need to continue. In most cases cutting it off at 75 questions is a good indication of passing.

hi just wanna ask if you know omeone who failed on nclex rn who only got 75???

There is nothing you can do until you get your results.  Fretting about it is a useless waste of time.  Put it out of your mind and distract yourself with enjoyable things to do.

Pass or fail, the physical effects of the stress will not help you and are not worth it.
