Posted over 5 years ago Good afternoon everyone. I am still a little ways away from graduating from the LPN program I am in but I am trying to look towards the future. I was wondering where should I look for employment when I do graduate. Because they just changed the curriculum this semester we know have to take the CNA class which is fine with me because I will be a CNA. So my question I guess should be when I become a CNA where will I be eligible to work fresh out and since I plan to work and go to school to become a LPN when I graduate from the LPN program where will I be able to work. Most jobs that I have been looking at for LPN's want 1-2 years experience where does a new grad start out and do they count CNA experience because I will be a CNA for at least 6 months before I finish the LPN program. Thanks In Advance.

| Posted over 5 years ago If you get on with a hospital as a CNA they will usually concider you for a LPN position right out of school. Do the Hospital work first. LTC's are great but some of my skills are getting a bit rusty from non-use. |

| Posted over 5 years ago Many hospitals have tuition reimbursement programs for CNAs striving to become nurses, either LPNs or RNs. That could help you in nursing school. Just make sure work as a CNA does not affect your studies. I would go for a hospital job once you become an LPN grad. There is nothing like a year or two on a medical surgical nurses to get your skills and knowledge into shape. In the meantime, I hope you consider getting your RN. LPNs can have great careers (I was one for 12 years) but advancement options are limited. |
