Great! I wanted to make a quilt long time ago, a had purchased most of the needed materials but my problem is grouping of colors. I tend to mix different colors and then when I look at them I did not like them, so I started to tear them off again. Up to now all I've done was to sew and rip. Can somebody help, maybe I have a color coordinate problem?

I want to learn to sew and my mom did try to teach me some, but now that she is gone I don't have anyone to help me. Last summer I got my Grandma's sewing machine that she made my mom's clothes on back in the mid to late 30's. It still works, but I can't figure out how to set it up to sew. I do want to take lessons someday.

I wanted to do a memory quilt about my mom and I am not sure how to go about that, but I know I want to take lessons on how to do that too.

The only crafts I do is scrapbooking and I did make some hanging candle holders too.

How's the sewing going, cd? U currently have a quilt on my cutting table and one that needs to be completed but it's not gonna happen tonight. Maybe tomorrow. For those of you who have shown an interest in learning to sew... please follow up on it. It is "sew" worth it!

I really enjoy quilting... I started aout 7 years ago when I joined a volunteer effort to make baby quilts for St.Vincents.. a hospital where very ill babies with AIDS and other terminal illnesses and no one to care for them and I loved it so that it just grew from there.

You're gonna have to go through the lining... or a taylor! Sometimes I would rather start from scratch than to repair!

I made my in-laws a quilt with pictures for their 50th anniversary. It was a lot of work, but ended up ok. I put the picture in my pictures.

Thanks, it was my first one, I thought about giving up several times. I just played around until I got what I wanted. You shouldn't look at it up close though. I try to sew. I have a problem with measurements. I always make things way to big for me. I knitted a sweater once that went to my knees and scrubs that fell off of me. I'm not sure why, I guess I always feel I should make it just a bit bigger and before I know it...I can't wear it.

I just came from a sewing club meeting. Several in there are quilters, knitters. Hope to learn from them

squirmals: How did you get the pictures on the cloth? (I loved your quilt! It must have taken a long time to make)

yup, use the transfer paper. I went to kinkos and they frowned on the idea of using the copy machines to copy the pictures. I bought the paper at a craft stores and wal-mart and used my home copier. I believe the pattern for the quilt was the log cabin. It seemed the easiest to use and I changed things with the mistakes I made and boy there were a lot of mistakes!

It is surprising to me how many of us nurses don't know how to sew. I was brought up in Europe after world war II and there was nothing. So as a girl you wanted nice cloths and if you can not sew you did not have anything. So to me it is very normal that you can make your own clothes and what ever else you want to make. I am doing a lot of quilting now. But I am also altering scrubs for coworkers and making scrub tops and buttums. It is easy to do and always a succes. So if there are questions I can answer pls let me know.

Mieke: When I was in the former Soviet Union I was amazed at the talented seamstresses You are correct, if they want nice clothes, they make them.

For one kind of memory quilt send a 4 and 1/2 in piece of musling to each family member and ask them to write a short story or just sign it. (use acid free pens) then put a colored square on each side. I made a special two sided quilt Trip aroung the World on one side and Candy Wrapper on the other. On the Candy wrapper side I had everyone at my parent's 50th Wedding Anniversary party sign it and it is a great memory of that special day for them They even have it on their bed.

For beginning quilters the Quilt In A Day series of quilt books is a great way to start. You don't have to guess at anything. you get great suggestion and very clear instructions. I have been quilting for a long time and it is a great relaxation time for me. Oh yeah, good nurse good quilter but terrible typist. in the previous post it is muslin not musling; Sorry

I have the Better Homes and Gardens Complete Guide to Quilting it has more than 750 step-by-step color photographs which includes every basic method and technique. So far I have only used at least 3 patterns and not one quilt is done yet. Working as a CNA though it's an 8 hour a day work only but it is very tiring and because I work 2-10 p.m. there is not much time for me in the morning to do quilting, and when I come home from work I sit in front of the PC and stay up until the wee hours. Now somebody has to share her time management technique for me to be able to do the Quilting.

Sounds like a good book. I will look for it. I bought a couple of "2 Hour patterns" the two hour projects have taken as long as two weeks for me.
