How does a person go about starting a nursing career? With getting into a school and the tuition I have not gotten far. I can't afford loans nor can I qualify for them anyway. I have no real idea what to look for in a school or what I can do to prepare myself to go back to school. I am completely lost on everything. I just know I want to be a nurse and possibly one day a doctor. If anyone has any info to help me in my pursuit please let me know. I have tried so many things and I am not getting anywhere.

Thanks to everyone that replies!

A lack of planning on your part, does not constitute an emergency on my part.

Try being a CNA first. The course is not that long and you will find out if that is the direction you want to go. After that, you can explore your options for LPN or RN.

If you want to avoid those huge school loans, stay away from the private schools. Check out your local Community College or surrounding colleges in your area. Ask about attending an informational program for a CNA, LPN, or RN Program. My local Community College offiers informational programs for interested students for the LVN or RN Program. You will be informed of the program's requirements as far as prerequisite courses that need to be completed (with satisfactory grades) prior to being accepted as a potential candidate. Or, you can also meet with a counselor. Bring your old college transcripts with you- you might have already knocked out some of those general ed courses needed. Good luck.
