Posted over 5 years ago I am new to this! I am currently in A&P 1 and having the hardest time :( My teacher isn't any help. All he tells me is that I have to understand it not just read it. We have had quizes on the chapters but I haven't done very well on those. I need some advice on how to study for this class. I have made flash cards and re read the chapters but it is just so much to take in. We have our first test coming up and I just want to pass it. So any advice would be helpful |

Writing will help you memorize the information, when ever you are doing lab, always use that tiime to practice, for the exam, you need the flashcards, trust me, that's what save my ass~~~ in microbiology. Write,Write, and most of all PRAY!! I am a proud mother of three beautyful daughter. I currently live in Los Angeles California. I've worked as a heathecare provider for almost 10 years. I am curently in school to pursue my MSN in nursing, and wants to work as a pediactric nurse, in public health. |

I did great in mirobiology but I just don't get this stuff. We are going to have a review for our test on the class day prior but we don't have a review just our "Bible" as he calls it. I have been praying like crazy b/c there is just so much information and I really need to get an A in this class. I feel like all I do is work, go to school and study. Thank you for your help:) |

| Posted over 5 years ago Thats how it is, I hardely have a social life myself, this is just the beginning, wait until the actual nursing program itself. You are right, A&P is hard. When I took it, we had to disect a cat, we used the cat, in the muscle system, and the nervous system. You might have to work partime, I don't know if you are working partime or what, but if you want that A, and you find A&P hard, you might have to limit you work hours. I know it is hard, but that is what you might have to do, to get that A. GOOD LUCK, and keep praying, I will pray for you also, keep me in your prayers, I am on the same road as you. | Posted over 5 years ago What about a tutor? At our college we have tutors available that get paid by the school and are no charge to us. Sometimes a day or two before the test, a tutor would hold a study session where we could ask about concepts we didn't understand. Each tutor was a previous student who excelled in the class. That was extremely helpful! Maybe your teacher would be willing to help set something up, if not see your student advisor for advice. I believe that once you get through the shock of this first unit & test, things will become easier to comprehend. Not easy, but easier. That was my experience anyway. Cuttie is definitely right about life outside of school; rally your family & loved ones to help out as much as possible and to bear with you while you get through this. It almost feels as if life is on hold. Best of luck!! |

I am going to take the day before the test of to really cram b/c I have a math test the same day but at 8am. I had a break down after work on Tuesday, I was almost ready to drop this class because I blamed the teacher for me not getting it. Then I realized that it wasn't his fault. I am going to study my butt off and get my A. The teacher said he will drop one of our test grades so I know that if I don't do good on this one (but I am going to try) I have the opportunity to do 100% better on the next ones and I will also know what the test are going to be like! I wish you all the best of luck and keep me updated on how all the other classes are :) |

| Posted over 5 years ago RN2B said: I don't know about tutors, I have talked to a few friend who have already taken the course and they all said just study, review, understand and study some more. The teacher said he would do a study session but it is on fridays and there is no way I can get off of work. I asked if it could be done at night and no go b/c the teacher has classes at night. I hope that after the shock of 5 chapters for 1 test things become clearer. I think I am so overwhelmed b/c of all the information we have to study ( and more then half will not even be on our test). I knew this class was going to be challenging just not this much. I know that it will not get easier but clearer as you said. It does seem as if my life is on hold and my friends that are not in college just don't get it. My family is great they help as much as possible but there is only so much they can do since I am the first one in my family to go to college! Thank you for all the advice and best of luck I am going to need it! |

| Posted over 5 years ago I took A&P I and II last summer while working full-time. I bought a book called Straight A's in Anatomy Physiology(It also came with a CD rom). The book focused on the main concepts you need to know for each section. This help me out tremendously!!!! The book is very easy to follow and understand. There is also a set of Anatomy study cards that cover every system in the body. These items can be found at Barnes & Noble or any bookstore. Also you can order the book online. I hope this help. |

I have the A&P book we had to get but also the coloring book, lab reference book and a student study guide that I had to buy online. We also have to make our own flash cards the book store did not have any. but I found this website called flashcard exchange! It has been a life saver b/c you can post your fIash cards, print and look at ones that other people have done. I found some for my book (not all of them but it has helped) hope that it helps me ..... Thank you so much. |

| Posted over 5 years ago I agree....the Straight A's In.....series are very helpful....they give you outlines on the various topics, and then NCLEX style questions, along with rationales for the right and wrong answers.....these will be helpful to you throughout the rest of RN school and certainly for NCLEX itself...I swear I had a few of their questions on my exam....not to mention, I think that some of their questions were on my RN school exams too! These books are put out by Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins. |

This cd actually produces computer generated flash cards that can be printed off if necessary. We are working out of the latest Marieb text don't know if this is helpful but I hope it is. Good luck |

| Posted about 5 years ago Play with it.....for example we had to remember every bone in the human body I walked aroud with skulls and limbs for weeks.....lol......make rymes......we all learn differently.......and to be honest A and P is nothing compared to the nursing classes in those classed you have to learn "critical Thinking"....find your nitch now......I had a good instructor...maybe you dont okay thats alright. record the lecture and read the chapter and put the lesson into terms that you understand........dont give up. |

| Posted about 5 years ago Marqurell said: I just had the test on all the bones. I did really good but we don't have a lot of time to in lab and I think we had only like 5 or 6 skulls for 22 people. I get copies of the pp lectures and study from those. I think my hardest think is that we don't have a study guide to study from. All the teacher tells us is that we must know everything! Which when you have a test on 5 chapters that is alot of crap. I study so much I can't study anymore, my brain feels overloaded. I have a B in the class so far and we have about a month to go and four more test so I may be able to get my A. I hope I do because that is more points for nursing. Thanks for your tips! :D |

| Posted about 5 years ago I think it just all depends on what kind of teacher you are having for A&P. My teacher makes the subject really interesting and easier to learn. Coming from different background, I don't speak/write/understand English as much as native speakers do but I really like a&p class and enjoying this class very much. I try to study and go over the notes after every lecture, as short as 30 minutes. And then when the test comes, I re-write my notes and read textbook for the part that I don't get. I think A&P is really about understanding its concepts and applying that knowledge to different scenario. So we can actually use it when we become a NURSE.yay! Hope you pull this off and get A from this class! :) |
