We all have seen patients eating weird stuff. What was the weirdest thing any of your patients have eaten? I have had patients eat clothes detergent (Tide powder) and of course clay.

I had one that tried to eat plastic flowers. Had another one who ate a styrofoam cup. That was after he took an Ambien. I never again prescribed Ambien

Not really weird, but consistent...with each of my last two pregnancies, as soon as the first snow fell, I craved ice chips. I didn't stop chomping (much to my hubby's dismay) until each of the girls were born. Immediately after birthing, the cravings were gone!

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, worn out and screaming "Woo-hoo"!!!

I had a pt in the hospital that had swolled a whole thing of razor blades.
Another that made a coctail of light bulbs and juice.

We were on a call where a patient, at a nursing home, was eating his own feces (not fishes), all the training in the world could not have prepared us for this incident, and needless to say we made the "call of the week."

cd, I thought you would have a few of those kind of patients. The gross part is the protocol treatment.

we had a pt do that with the feces, but she rolled it to look like babe ruth mini bars and was offering it to the staff. something just did seem right with all the "candy bars" unwrapped sitting on her over the bed table. As a rule I don't eat anything offered to me from pts.

I did that after I tried to make myself anorexic/ bulimic, which I failed at. I didn't eat for a month and if I had something it didn't stay with me very long. At the end of the month I craved raw rib eye steak, raw meat...it was weird because I never could even eat meat that was pink.
