Posted over 1 year ago Hello Readers! I've just started my first semester of college and taking my general ed classes. I am 28 yrs of age, married and have a son. I really do want to become an RN and can't wait to finish my schooling but I do get discourage sometimes because of all the pre-requisite classes I have to take :( So any encouragement would be helpful. Thank you guys! |

| Posted over 1 year ago Hiya and welcome to NL..I understand how you feel about the pre reqs., however that's needed for a degree..Otherwise you wouldn't qualify for a degree..Maybe a certificate but ot degreed..Just try to get them out of the way as quickly as you can.. Remember none of those like the pre reqs. Best of Luck to you and please keep us posted..Teresa |

| Posted over 1 year ago Agreed...gotta stay the course if you want the degree. Many have done it before you and many will after. Stay focused and it will all be worthwhile. |

| Posted over 1 year ago Hi, since there is nothing you can do about the whole pre-req thing, I want to give some encouragment. If nursing school is something that you want really badly, its going to requiere some work. Anything worth it is not going to be easy. I started as a freshman last year and did 4 classes in the fall, and four in the winter, and two in the summer, and now (time flys by really fast) im in my sophmore year and I am on my last four classes( im over joyed). When I started I thought that it was going to take forever to get to nursing school, but time goes by without you even knowing, just put on your patient shoes and just do it!!! I also recommend as was recommended to me, to clep the classes you dont need to quicken the process. I did consider clepping because some of the classes I thought I didnt need but once I went through them I didnt regret taking them. They helped me so much in preparing me for the rest of the classes, and gave me basic skills that I needed, and with you being out of school for so long you might need them. You can do it, your goona do it, and its gunna be more than worth it, dont get discouraged, and persevere above all. Good blessings!!!!! I wish you well |

| Posted over 1 year ago I really had trouble (mentally) with a bunch of the pre-req.s. I appreciated all of those classes later, when they began to made sense (the Philosophy requirement was one, until I faced ethical questions at work). Tom, PhD, MPH, BS(N), RN-C, CHN |

| Posted about 1 month ago dwinns, After being an educator my self, of course I have all kinds of books and references.. However, I decided to trash them because they have really become out of date.. No more books for my students.. I have found that, the internet has so many more valuable sites for any information or studying that is posible no way to ever read all. So what I would do if I was you, is really search into the internet and find a site that you are intrigued by and use that.. (Besides, the information is easier to carry vs. a backpack full of books..) Best of luck to you..Please keep us posted.. Teresa |

| Posted 11 days ago I think that if I were still writing coursework, I would bag most of the books. Too many are dated to quickly and the internet can usually give you sufficient (and good quality) material for most class work (the guys that write books are going to hate to hear that).
