I work with a RN that looks at LPN's like they are so stupid, but she just sits around and we do the work and she takes the credit.  She is the only one, the others are so great. She has made statements out on the floor, that are very hurtful and then will laugh. I have learned to walk away from her with a smile. She has causes alot of problems between the staff and some of the nurses, but all has been worked out and they all know what it is going on and who is at fault.

As frustrating as this can be, you are not alone.Concerning," a selected few",who have had the privilege/time/finances to scale the ladder of success within the healthcare industry, acquire the badges of honor and have many doors for advancement opened to them, one thing becomes very evident to the keen observers surrounding them. They've gained recognition, though lose compassion.

This is ** Not Rule of Thumb** for every RN...This is how some people are.I've worked with numerous nurses over time; the list is endless in relation to disrespect,( active / passive),it goes on,because certain authoritative figures,"allow it to".( Sad,but true). The best course of action at this time is:"Be a keen observer".1) Know the relationships between who is in charge,( in / outside the workplace / related, etc).Be vigilant, accountable and professional,non-threatening / non-challenging.Do your work, interact with the patients, though ,"do not gossip".**There is nothing worse that,"little old ladies love to do is chatter about what they saw / heard ,etc.then report it back to family and or the social worker, etc.

2) Do not be Multi -Course to,"The Bash Buffet"-stick with Soup / Salad  and Item of Familiarity.Talkng trash,if not properly disposed of, can be toxic! Remember, you are there for the patients," No Comments", to The Press.

Thank You so very much ninelives, that is very well put and said. Yes, I do not gossip as I have found that not be kind or anywhere a need to be done at work or anywhere else. It is so petty and unbecoming.  I have been in nursing for over 30years and have worked with this person as a floor nurse also, prior to her now position. She talks down to the entire staff, and only is kind when she needs something or wants a favor. I have to just smile all the time as you can see it as plain as day. I'am so very thankful for your comments as if brings good outside comments to please me to keep up with my smiles.

There was only one time my feelings were hurt or the fact that I was" only an Lpn." I had to do a pedal pulse on a patient. All the nurses before my assessment documented a pedal pulse was present. These were RN's as well as LPN's. The shift just started and she was my first patient I assesed and I was extremely busy. I know pedal pulses can sometimes be difficult to find and harder on an obese patient but I was not 100%sure it wasn't there. I told the charge nurse yet she did not check for herself but called the surgeon and told him that the Lpn taking care of his patient said there was no pulse present. He came to the floor in 5 minutes and he checked for himself. The patient was in surgery within 20mins.The Doctor thanked me but the charge nurse said nothing. I just didn't like the fact that she had to refer to me as the Lpn and not refer to the Doctor as the nurse on duty. I was proud that I was a big part in saving this womans leg. RN's usually trust my assessment skills yet this one didn't.         Joni

You know that is her problem.. Good thing you checked. So I would just walk around her with a grin.. Don't sweat the small stuff.. There is so much other stuff around.. Good for you and your skills.. You should be very proud of yourself..Hugs,Teresa
