EMT pants should be the standard pants for nurses and other health care professional over scrubs. They are very professional looking, have many utilitarian pockets to hold stethoscopes, books, electronic devices, notebooks, and personal items. You can purchase EMT pants that have a Teflon coating that resists stains. EMT pants can be appropriately worn casually in the non-working civilian environment and are, also, appropriate and useful in the "Outdoor" environment. Scrubs do not share the aforementioned stylish, professional, nor utilitarian aspects of EMT pants. Scrubs wear and stain easily. Scrubs are not appropriate wear in the non-professional setting. EMT pants are, to me, more comfortable to wear than scrubs. Scrubs are not constructed with the same quality and durability as are EMT pants which are constructed for their durability and utility in the demanding health care environment. However, scrubs, generally, cost less than EMT pants. However, given the aforementioned, the significantly greater utility, durability, adaptability, professional appearance, and comfort of EMT pants over scrubs make EMT pants the much better pants for nurses and all health care professionals.

I think the phrase "should be the standard pants" is a little narrow. I think they "should be an option" if they fit with the dress code.  Not all of us would prefer ems pants to scrubs.  I buy two pairs of scrubs (tops & bottoms) for less than $60, which also includes the embroidery.  I get at least 2-3 years out of each set so far. Plenty of pockets & plenty of extra room to do the repetetive stooping & bending to start lines...etc, in the ed.  I don't care what they look like outside of work.

i agree with the idea about nurses wearing  EMS pants but it is cost prohibitive EMS pants run between $45-$80 per pair. I just recently priced a pair of scrub pants @ $ 16.00 at that price I could buy a substantial amount of scrubs at that rate. If they made scrubs with the amount of pockets as EMS pants then that would be the best of both

I recently found a site that offers EMS style scrub pants at half the cost of traditional pants they are pricey though

Good advice, but due to the cost restraint, I think it has to be an individual choice...Hugs,Teresa
