Posted over 1 year ago Hello everyone, I am new to all this, but have known my entire life I was born to be in the medical feild. I have been out of school a litte over ten years now..yikes! I'm scared to death of where I truely am in pursuing this New (and long time coming) venture in my life. I need some advice on where I should start... What you all have went through and/or going through. I want become a nurse. I have always worked in high pressure, time consuming jobs my whole life. Its time I make it all count for something.. Can ya'll help me out? I've filled out my FAFSA but have no idea what school I should attend? Or mostly worried about remedial courses. I guess my first question should be: How do you know where you are before appyling to a college? I've heard nothing but horror stories about nursing programs and how hard they are (if you even get in at all.) The actual learning of the nursing itself is not what intimidates me, Its all the other stuff like Math, etc (the general stuff.) I am obsessed with the human body and all aspects of it. Just don't know where to start? Thanks for listening to a very confused, yet excited girl, Terri |

| Posted over 1 year ago Terri, 1st,welcome to NL..It's nice to meet you.. 1st, As a moderator on this site, it is my pleasure to assist you in any way while here.. You will also find some of the greatest members here, that will give you knowledge and the best encouragement on any site that I have been too..Congratulations on your decision to go into the medical field..I can understand your anxieties, but I have to tell you, we all went through the same thing.. Any thing new, is frightening until you learn it..this field is no difference.. I think where you should start, is to make an appointment with your local college counselors and have a converstation with them in regards to your future itineraries.. It may be overwhelming, but just take it one at a time, and think about your ultimate goal..One class at a time, is not as overwhelming as many.. I'm sure you will take more than one at a time, but thinking of it this way, will relieve some of your fears..Best wishes to you, and God Bless you in all of your future endeavors.. Please keep us posted. Teresa |

| Posted over 1 year ago Hello Terri, also welcome. What a great decision you have made to enter the nursing field! I had been out of school for 21 years before going to college. It was a very hard decision for me but the best one I ever made! I also had to go through the remedial math, etc., but I did it and finally got into the nursing program. I worked full-time and went to school nights and week-ends until the last semester. Then I quit my job and went to school full-time. I graduated, aqcuired a position in a level one trauma center operating room as a perioperative nurse and eventually moved to the southwest. The oportunities are there for you and all you have to do is work for them. All you have to do is want them enough. School is not easy by any means but with support you will make it and there is enough out there for you if you look! Good luck and don't hesitate to check back often.

| Posted over 1 year ago Thank you Terri and nice to meet you too. I thought this site woul be great to hang out at and encourage those people to take the same steps that I did. Actually my daughter, who is 29, a single mom of four, is in college now and starting the nursing program in the fall if all goes well with the TEAS test in February so it made me think that I sure hoped someone would be there for her if I couldn't be. |

| Posted over 1 year ago Today was so draining I want to say walk, no wait, RUN away from nursing! But alas I need someone to take care of me when I get old. So, realistically I always thought it was good to go to the best school you can afford. But now, as I age with student loans I think go to the cheapest school that will get you what you need. That is my advice for today. Once you get that degree then you have to find your niche. But that is another story. |
