Posted over 1 year ago Some advice please. I work as a Director Of Welllness. I can not tell you how many times I filled in on the weekend. Worked late etc. I was told that I am not putting in enough hours. I work 40 plus. I had two call offs yesterday and got them covered. I received a nasty email from my boss that I shouuld have covered the call offs. The company wants to save money by using their salaried workers. She that I always go home on time(not True). I explained to her that I had to pick my husband up from work. Did she expect me to leave him stranded until 11 pm. She said yes. I also explained to her that on my week ends off and there are call offs, I work from home to get coverage. I was told that is part of my job and I should get used to dropping my plans and cover the shifts. I do not get paid to be on call. My question is, is my boss expecting to much from me? Or should I expect to never make plans, work 12 hour days and weekends? Or I am I just being used? Advice please. |

Posted over 1 year ago Hiya, you are in a rough predicament.. As a nurse which has worked salary positions and management, it was my understanding from the beginning that this was to be expected..Not that this is a correct way, but it is understood. Best of luck to you...Teresa

Posted about 1 year ago I nolonger work for this company. I worked 7 days a week some times 16 hours. Because I was salary and the company did not want to pay overtime, I was forced to work unsafe hours. Just because a person is paid salary does not mean they sell their soul.

Posted about 1 year ago I completely agree with you..There are some attorneys that will fight for your overtime (even if you are salaried), and I'd also contact the labor board from your state.. Just a thought. If anything, the labor board may stop this facility from working others as much overtime as they did you. Best of luck on your new position and please keep us posted.. Teresa

Posted about 1 year ago To add, I also left the position because I was told that It was my fault that employees are calling off and quiting. I was told I had one month to stop the call offs and the employees quiting. I was also told that I had to keep overtime down to 0%. What nursing department can run on 0% overtime? And how is it my fault that the employees are calling off on a daily basis. This place is a joke. Sad for the residents who pay a large amount to reside there. The manager does not care if I would work myself to death. Does not care that it would not be safe for the residents to have an exhausted nurse caring for them. Very sad. However, this is the trend that I see in healthcare.

Posted about 1 year ago Oh my, I hope the residents are getting better than adequate care.. If it is as bad as you say, have you ever called the county or the licensing board? You really are probably better off being away from there. It could of had ramifications that you really didn't need.. Hugs,Teresa
