My niece wants to get into nursing but doesn't have much patient care experience. A good friend of mine is an advisor at one of the local schools and told me to get her started in medical assisting because supposedly it will make it easier for her to get into a good nursing program. Does anyone know anything about this?

I'm thinking about paying for her to do a 5-day medical assistant program ( I will put program info below ) so she can work as a MA and get paid while she earns more patient care experience.  Has anyone taken this same route? If so, how did it work out for you?

(I did a 2-day phlebotomy program with the same company and it worked out well for me. I just don't want to spend the extra money unless its going to be worth it for her.)

5-day MA program: www. MedicalCareerSpecialists .com; phone: 1(800)595-6276

Madam Tigress    Hiya, In my expierence, being a medical assistant, (nursing assistant) does help you along in the medical field..The knowledge alone is priceless.. However, I'm not sure if it will guarantee you into a nursing program, furthermore, a 2 day phelbotomey program is possible but really cutting it on the time.. Please know this is just my opinion being a nurse and a educator both..What ever has and will work for other's comes from alot of determination..Best of luck to your niece..Teresa
