Posted about 1 year ago Hi my name is Ron and I live in Phoenix Arizona. I am signed up to go to CNA training school the end of March. I have been a certified caregiver for years and taking to the CNA certification now. But what I want to know is am I to old to think of going for my LPN now? I would have to do it part time as I have to work and support myself somewhat while educating myself. But my concern is do you feel being a buy my age now of 56 be 57 in July that I am still able to get my LPN at least and get a job in the market when I assume I would be 58 by then? I appreciate any honest to the point answers from you all as you are the professionals on this forum not me. thank you Ron Phoenix Az |

| Posted about 1 year ago Thank you, I am as stated getting my CNA a start then need to first see if there is a way to take LPN part time as I can not go full time as I need to work somewhere. I heard you can do it online but not able to find that info. Again thanks for encouragement.

| Posted about 1 year ago Ron, I think the best avenue is to go right to the source.. Ask your instructor, or ask the ABON.. They will advise you of any where it is possible.. Also, if they are acredited and if they accept their credits towards your state boards.. |

| Posted about 1 year ago Hi Ron ,Read your Post gave it much thought ,If you are in Good Mental an Physical shape.I would say GO For It , in my Post how old is to old ,I stated, This is a Young Person Game. Dont fool yourself in the Hospital or Nursing Home ,You will be the Go to Guy ,for any patient who needs to be lifted or pulled up. on your unit. Can your back handle it? Any one who goes in this Profession 50>(LPN OR RN) is Insane.Being over 50+ an a New Nurse dosent exempt you from hard (Physcial ) work on these Units,if you cannot pull your weight with the lifting ,an pulling, getting the 300lb + pateint OOB .The Young Nurse will talk about you ,trust me .As far going to Nursing at this age its a lot ,As we age thing start to decline, Mental,Physcial. As a young Nursing Student of 23 years old , I didnot watch tv, go to movies read newspaper,,go out dancing, the entire time, I was in Nursing School,It was Study, Study ,Study, 105 student started 35 finished and that was 33 years ago. maybe things have changed ,I think not that why it"s Nursing Shortage If you got what it takes ( and only you would Know) GO FOR IT ,But Remember you been Warned |

| Posted about 1 year ago Ron, I'm only 22 so I don't know if my opinion counts to you, but I don't believe you're too old. You're never too old to learn and better your life. After I get my first job as an RN and get some experience, I plan to be in classes and getting certifications for the rest of my life. If you set your mind to do it, you can. |

| Posted about 1 year ago You are absolutely still young enough! When I went to college the first time I was 17yrs old. I am now 44 and going back to school. I am more mature and a better student for it. My path is STNA to LPN to RN. Learning from the bottom is a good thing. As far as the future, if I had it to do again I would have gone STNA to RN. In my area you need to have a BSN to be competitive. Hope to be there in 2 years. Then I am going to go for either a MSN or doctorate. Erick von Ahn |
