Posted over 1 year ago HI everyone, I have applied to both RN program & LPN program (as a back up) at my college in Jacksonville, Fl my home town. Right now I am working full time, where I have been for the past 3 years.. I have completed all pr-reqs working a full time job. Upon getting accepted I obviously am leaving my full time job to focus on school 100%. I should be getting letters here soon in the next couple of weeks to know whether I made it in or not. FINGERS CROSSED! |

| Posted over 1 year ago Hiya, As an educator for the nursing field, I can say that no less than half of my students in the past 16 years have worked at least part time, if not full time. Yes, they say it is more difficult, but it was necessary.. I also found, in my opinion, my busiest students, ie: mothers or workers were my best students.. To answer your 2nd question, If you are able to do the LPN first (because of no room of RN or not excepted only), yes it would be wise.. If you are accepted into the RN program, then I would do that instead.. You will learn all you need to know, and postponing the RN program, will just be that.. Postponing. Best of luck to you, and please keep us posted.. Teresa |

| Posted over 1 year ago Hi TheresaRN, thanks for your insight. That's good to know that half your students worked part time, so it can be done! I would only try to work just a couple nights during the week and then Saturdays & Sundays anyway. May be harder to pull through but it can happen. Thanks, if I get accepted first try to RN I will take it.. I am terrified to begin haha. If I don't get accepted I will just plan to start LPN instead, may take longer to get there, but I know that I will make it eventually. Thanks again! I will def keep you posted on progress! |

| Posted over 1 year ago Mandiestaz, so lets say you have to do LPN 1st and then RN... Yes it will take a longer time..However, if the 5-6 years go by (and they will) where do you want to be.. Ready for a new career or still waiting to begin... Best of luck.. Teresa |

| Posted over 1 year ago Mandiestaz - take one day at a time. I have been working on getting into a nursing program for a while now. Had to put it off for a while due to illness in the family, but am now working on completing the last of the pre-reqs I need to apply to the nursing program. I plan on applying to both the LPN and ADN program. Which ever I am accepted into is the one I plan on going with. If LPN then I will bridge to RN later. I know this will take a little longer but that is ok - I am going to take it one day at a time. Being a single mother I have to work in order to support my family. It will be hard - but it can be done. Think positive and don't give up. It will all work out. Best of luck to you and Good Luck!! |

Thanks soswalt! Good luck to you! I am in my last pre-req now and am patiently waiting for an acceptance letter in the mail. (fingers crossed) I have also applied to both, hoping for either one really. I agree with you to take it one day at a time.. I am trying to remind myself of that! Fortunately I only have step kids, that I have no responsiblity of supporting therefore it is not a MUST that I work through school, but I do have needs that I would need a little income for. Hoping to be able to wait tables a couple nights a week plus weekends. good luck to you! |
