Hi,

I work in a hospital and enjoy may job to the fullest. I do get irritated when the RN's and docs treat us as if we are incapable of communicated the needs and or changes in our patients's condition. We are the first one's at the bedside early in the am/pm (start of the shift) and during the course of the day. When the call bell rings, it is us that are usually the one who answer more often than not. Yet, it is the RN or doctor the patient would like to see. My job title exceeds basic patient care in a hospital setting. I  am required to report changes in a patients physical as well as cognitive function, run EKG's, do bladder scans, draw blood for labs, walking pulsox, discontiue foley catheters as per doctors orders etc.  We are the last to be considered when each hospital celebrates national nurses week not to mention being overlooked by the ANCC as part of the nursing deliverance of care when a hospital has gained Magnet Status. Sad, but true we do the work but are least likely recognized or appreciated for all that we do.  As for pay the licensed professional get the bonuses we get nothing yet.....keep up the good work with a smile. However, I will continue to be care for my patients by giving them optimal care using the holistic approach.

P. of Philly, Hiya and thank you for your post.. I know there are other PCT's that feel the same way.. As a matter of fact, I  don't think there is any one in any capacity  that  won't say, they are the ones overlooked in the team of medical care. Needless to say, it is as it is,  the competition is fierce and not fair in any way. I think like I have said before, there is a place for all of us on the team.. If one of us is missing, then that would be the missing link and the chain would break.. As long as you are the one who can look at yourself at the end of the shift and really know you made a difference in the lives of your patients, then that has to be your ultimate reward... God bless you.. Please keep us posted.. Teresa
