Posted about 1 year ago Hello all its been awhile since I've been back here but its nice to be back. So recently I have decided that I want to act on my desire to be a nurse. I called the college I graduated from and asked how I would even get started because I do have my B.A. but it is in Psychology so I asked my former college and they said I would have to apply as a second degree canditate and they said it would probably take about 2 yrs. because some of my credits are transferable. I started the actual application but I haven't completed it fully yet. Not to sound arrogrant but I do not believe there would be any reason I would not be able to get in .......my GPA when I graduated was 3.76 and I have spent 15 yrs. in the human service field but I am hestitant because of the length of time, the fact that I am now 37, the money, and having a little boy at home..........so am I doing the right thing? Thats the question circling my head. I LOVE LOVE medicine and anything medical in general and I love working with people in my spare time I no word of a lie read articles having to with medical topics because I find it all so very interesting and I feel passionate about it....I dunno I am stuck on this decision......geez I just realized how I rambled sorry all just would love some pro's and con's/advice on this whole dilemma in my head............oh FYI what is the difference between and LPN an RN .........I know with an RN its a B.A. in Nursing but what is a LPN and how do they differ Jenn |

| Posted about 1 year ago Hiya, Welcome back...It's very nice to "see" you again.. It sounds to me,like you have been busy.. But with all that, you have new plans... Congratulations on your upcoming career..I'm sure your schooling will all work out.. That's one of the awesome things about this career, is that you can do this at your own speed...Alot of nurses go into this field because they love medicine.. I myself, eat and breathe it...LOL As far as the differences between and LPN and an RN, sometimes depend on the state that you live in. An LPN most of the time can do 99.9% of the same things an RN can do.. But, they do get paid less. Alot of nurses get their LPN first so they can transition into RN for the knowledge and also so they can work and also have an income.. Then they can bridge over to an RN in about 12-18 months. Now remember this is my opinion only, It takes about 12-18 months to become an LPN and appox. 2 years + to become an RN.. This depends on the degree you want to receive.. So what I think, is if you ultimately want to go for your RN degree, save some time and go for it right away.. This can save you time and money.. Don't get me wrong, being an LPN is awesome and a very fullfilling career.. The problem nowadays is they are starting to phase them out.. So do the math...In any case, please do some research and go from there. I would like to wish you the very best of luck to you.. Please keep us posted.... BTW, please don't send me any negative mail with regarding to the above.. This is just my humble opinion...Hugs, Teresa |

| Posted about 1 year ago Hi, Iam knew here but a long Story in Nursing,Iwant to give you the best advise I have over 20 years of nursing so that means I have seen a lot and today, the reality is that things are not going that great anymore the trend is that more and more when you look for a job they are prefering BSN ( A Bachelor Degree) besides, it is great that you like medicine, but what about considering something like a Dental Hyginist? my experience tells me that they get paid very good better than an RN ( OFCOURSE DEPENDING, Iam talking about basic nursing) they really have a better schedule no weekens, no hollydays, and for the amount of responsability and the charting is like a joke I would really consider to become an RN UNLESS YOU WILL CONTINUE TO BECOME SPECIALIZE, THAT WILL TAKE YOU LONGER. HOPING i MAY MYSELF CLEAR ASK ME ANYTHING AND I WILL ANSWER.GOOD LUCK GOD BLESS YOU. |
