Within the past 2 weeks I have heard of 2 colleges in the area I live in that are facing out their ADN programs because more incoming students are going for their BSN instead of their ADN.  I am beginning to wonder if I should be looking at BSN programs more.

Well, since I already have 23 college hrs already I have been looking at BSN already.  Yeah I will take me longer - but well worth it in the end though.  I know I can do alot more with a BSN.  I just wanted to get my ADN so I could get into the nursing field then bridge over to BSN later on.  I have even thought if I didn't get accepted into a LPN or an ADN program to take courses that leads to BSN.  I have looked at this at alot of angles.

I just recently discovered the ADN programs and they gave me a new hope for accomplishing my dream of being a nurse. I am a mother of a 2 year old and my fiancee works at the local sheriffs office giving him an odd schedule. His pay alone will not support us and I will have to still work at least a part time program. My plan at this time is to take the CNA course at the school down the street from me. After, completeing that I will apply for the schools ADN program (I have the core all completed) and look for a job as a CNA. Once graduating, passin my NCLEX and working for a little while I will complete and onlike RN to BSN bridge due to the wide spread rumor that soon that will be the required degree. I am choosing to do it this way to get my foot in the door quicker and advance while working. Later I would like to also obtain a Healthcare Management degree..... one step at a time though.

To this day I'm mad at myself for getting bored with school a few years ago and quiting. Things will be much harder now out on my own, with a family and job. But I feel it will be more rewarding. I also feel like I have a stronger will power and motivation behind me now. I want to make myself, family and most of all my son proud.

chestop, I have to say congratulations to you on your decision.. I think that your plan is great and it sounds to me like you will make it just fine. I think that while your son is young ,you may just have a bit of an easier time. Just make sure you have reliable day care or baby sitting available...Best of luck to you and please keep us posted... God Bless you in all of your future endeavors....Teresa

I'm going back to school!!!!  So excited!!  I have to take a couple of extra classes but I am not worried about that.  Willing to do them in order to accomplish my dream of becoming a nurse.  I looked at everything over the weekend and if I looked at the classes correctly - I will be ready to apply to the ADN program by next fall.  YAY!!!  I am going to work extra hard on all these classes I have to take to build up by GPA and be ready.  If I don't get into the ADN class then I am making plans to continue taking classes that will lead to a BSN.  That way by doing it that way I will be able to knock out alot more classes and be a little closer to my goal.
