Do not criticize, affirm the positive and politely point out areas for improvement. I agree with TeresaRN, smile a lot- it can go a long way. Avoid gossips like the plague. Share your packed lunch

| Posted 11 months ago That is a really good question. I will start by saying that you must definitely treat your colleagues with a lot of respect, because you would want them to do the same. You must also learn to work together as a team, especially in situations that might involve an emergency or trauma. I agree with 2ndtakerimmigrant, really try to avoid gossip. It wl just come back to bite you in the bum. Never underestimate yourself or someone else for that matter. Alsways do your work to the best of your ability. Love your patients and treat them like royalty. And, have loads and loads of fun and enjoy every moment thereof!!

| Posted 9 months ago How about, just do your job?. If you truly do not enjoy taking care of people - accept that nursing is not for you. Be there for the patients. Genuinely be the patient's advocate. If you cannot or do not understand that, then accept that nursing is not for you. Do not falsify records. If you didn't do a task, do not lie and chart that you did. Understand your role, the tasks and legal, ethically and morally what is expected of you the nurse. You are there for the patient. If you cannot do that, then perhaps nursing is not for you. If you do not know how to do something, ask or learn how to do it. Do not fake it. Do not judge patients that have issues. They are the patient. They are the sick one, you are supposed to be the professional. Learn what professional boundaries mean. Your coworkers are your coworkers. You don't have to be BFF's with coworkers. If they don't do their job or treat a patient right, you need to protect the patient. Do not ever lie for a coworker or cover for their inadequacies. The patient is the reason you are working, not your coworker that has issues. If your coworker looks like they are struggling, they probably are and need your help. Even if you don't like your coworker, do it for the patient. Remember, the patient is why you are there. |
