“Much has been written about the ‘Law of Attraction,’” writes comedian Barb Best. “But what about the ‘Law of HA-Traction?’ Everybody would love to attract more laughter into his or her lives. But how can we accomplish that goal without donning a rubber nose, a rainbow wig, and cumbersome clown shoes?

What is funny?

Because I’m a writer of humor, people often ask me where my comedic ideas originate from and how on earth do I find the funny. The answer is simple. I am always on the lookout for amusement – even in my sleep, which must be why I’m so tired. Just like your overachieving arthropod, my antennae are stuck in the “UP” position 24-7.

Attract the "Ha!"

Numerous studies link laughter to healing and happiness, therefore it is vital to our good health to be a HA-Tractor! Here are 5 ways to attract the “HA” to your life:

Rule One!

Develop your radar for the daffy, the unusual, and the downright weird. They are always good for a chuckle. Be a mirth magnet for absurdity and foolishness. It's out there in abundance. Goofy rules!

Rule Two

Be positive. Remember that at the heart of uplifting comedy is a happy idea. A spirit of optimism, not negativity, nourishes the soul of humor. A pessimist does not fully see the funny side of life, let alone appreciate the quirky, the whimsical, and the silly.

Rule Three!

Lighten up. Friends and strangers will be more eager to share their playful natures with you if you initiate a tone of generHAosity. This doesn’t require a shock buzzer hidden in the palm of your hand, but never underestimate the power of a warm smile or a funny tee shirt.

Rule Four

Cultivate a healthy philosophy toward life that accepts and deals with stark reality, but - when necessary - reframes it through a pair of Groucho glasses. Often, this takes time and practice

Rule Five

An attitude of gratitude is essential for humor to blossom. After all, things could be worse. Things can always be worse! You could have slipped not only on the banana peel, but also on the oil slick it was floating on… when your car crashed off the bridge and into the ocean… when you were blinded by a swarm of angry vampire bats… when… You get the idea. Good luck and happy HA-traction.
