The landscape of caregiving and nursing can become like land in the midst of a drought. I can feel thirsty like the parched earth. I can long for some refreshment to keep my spirits from fainting.
Nursing Heart was born from a consideration of resiliency. I participated in a group of nurses who made a journey thinking about the things that keep us vibrant in our caregiving. In desiring to be more than nursing machines, our group was looking for ways to stay supple and joyful while carrying out the demands of caregiving.
The outgrowth of this experience for me was this weekly consideration of a topic that focuses on the “art” of caregiving. As important as the science of nursing is, the deeper values that motivate a life of caregiving and healing also need to be tended to like a garden.
That’s what Nursing Heart is. It’s a member organization simply considering topics that consider the deep values of nursing care. It’s a forum without dues or fees and also serves as a bulletin board for others to find out how you keep your garden growing and full of life.
I hope you’ll consider being a member. If you already are a member, I hope you know that your voice and insights are important. The website blog is an easy place to share your thoughts on the topics. We are now a year old and look forward to another year of considering topics related to resiliency.
