Posted 8 months ago im a new nurse Ive been at a facility for 2 mos this week I have made a couple mistakes. My concern is I was the student who begged for skills during clinicals and graduated with a 3.7 gpa and was excited about going to work, but now I feel like Ive lost my confidence I have a fear of srewing up again. Is this normal? I have beat myself up over this for the last few days. I even got my school books out and started studying again nursing school was nothing like this. how long will it take for me to get it all down. This is my first job in healthcare. |

| Posted 8 months ago Hiya lpn, 1st of all, remember that we were all new at one time.. When you get your 1st position, it can be very scarry with an awful lot of responsibility.. OK, so you made an error. Your bad.. But I defy any nurse to speak up that has never made 1 mistake.. Thank God, it wasn't a dangerous mistake and really I bet after the MD told you you were wrong, he laughed about it even to himself.. You should see them as residents..Yikes...LOL So take a breath and move on..You will never make that mistake again...Look at it as a learning expierence.. Next, as far as how the stna and other nurses look at you, why didn't they assist you if they know that much.. Screw them.. Show them that you are an awesome nurse and that'll shut them up and leave their mouths open in the dust..LOL.. It's going to take a little time for you to get comfortable in your position and responsibilities.. Learn to triage, what's the most important thing to do and that is the safety of the residents. Your paper work will get done or not, but your patients will be safe.. So don't be so hard on yoursef, lift your head up and go for broke.. Show them who is awesome...Congratulation on your recent grauation.. Keep that feeling and you will stay in your own shoes excited and remember why you chose this professiion.. Best of luck to you.. Please keep us posted..Teresa |
