Hello all. My husband is active duty, so I was fortunate enough to recieve my RN training abroad whilst being stationed in England. Upon returning to the states, I had to go through cgfns to have my transcripts evaluated. The board of nursing said I was clear to take the nclex (mind you a few years has passed between me coming back stateside and jumping through the various hoops to get cleared for my test date). So now, I have been out of nursing for a few years and I go to take the test. I didnt study as much as I needed to(also working full time to cover costs of everything and take care of my three children, husband and our dog-lol), but I did take the Kaplans course online. Sad news from the board of nursing... I didnt get my license. I was very disheartened at first, and put it on the shelf. It is now two years later and I have been studying all along to keep hope alive? (my passion).  I am thinking of leaving my job to study for a few months and re-apply to take the nclex...  I know alot of people say its too hard afer you've been out of it for a while, and Im very frustrated that I cannot take a refresher course until after I pass, its all a bit backwards to me. Any advise or information?

Hiya Luvscoffee,1

st I say, If this is your dream an you have come so far, then why not go all the way.. Sure it will be difficult, but shat isn't.. Remember when youfirst started school, that was difficult, but you made it.

2nd, there are colleges that you can take a refresher course. I'm not sure of the price, but you can fin out by talking with the Admission Director and the  Financial Aid deartment. since your husban is in th military, you may be able to get some grants.

3rd, I just read that in Maryland, they accept your transcripts and after a bit of paperwork, they grant you a license. If i was you, I certainly look intoit.I'd call the NBON and ask directly.

4th, Your children will be proud of you and you show them the art of education..

Best of luck to you..Please keep us posted...

Teresa,

Thank you so much for your support. A refresher course would be benificial- I have contacted schools for gaining a refresher course, but unfortunately they require you to be a licensed RN (practicing, or non-practicing) before I am able to enroll. Once I pass the NCLEX, I will be placed on the non-practicing licensure due to my time out of practice. I will then need to take the refresher course before they transfer my license to an active practicing. I wish they would allow the refresher course before we take the NCLEX, that would be helpful. Lol, my apologies, just needed to air that out I suppose.

You are right Teresa, I must pursue my dream for myself and my family

I will contact MBON - they are actually who I had been working with in the past. Thank you for your insight.   and please let me know if you have any more advise or information
