HI all,  I recently received my letter of acceptance for the spring semester in the nursing program at my local community college. My question pertains to work schedules in which I have a couple of different options as I have seniority at my current employment ( target distribution center NY) and would like any/all opinions. I currently work sat,sun & mon. Twelve hour shifts and have classes on tues and thurs. Next semester ( nursing semester) my classes will be on mon/Wednesday  with my clinicals  being on Wednesday evening. My company gives me the flexibility to attend my lecture classes on mon. And come in later in the day so that is not a problem. I was considering on switching my schedule to having weekends and mon. Off and working three 10 hr. shifts on tues, thurs, fri. The problem is my wife seems to think that I would not be able to handle that schedule as I would be spending all my free time on the weekends studying with zero family time ( I work 6a-6p as it is on the weekends now?) and that our family would suffer. I disagree as I countered that I could study at night after work during the week ( done @ 4p) and intermittently on the weekends as needed. I am aware that each individuals study requirements differ but I am interested in getting a general consensus as to the average amount of study hrs that need to be put in. I am done with all my prereqs btw and will only be taking strictly nursing course. Thanks for any/all input or opinion.

Hiya, Congratulations on entering the nursing course.. In my opinion, I think that it's really up to you as far as which schedule is better for you..Your wife needs to know that this is really just temporary and it will be worth it in the end.. Either way it will take away from family time, so make it quality and not quantity.. Best of luck to you.. Please keep us posted.. Teresa
