  DENTAL STUFF::

8 AMAZING DENTAL FACTS -

Dental health is quite intriguing. There are plenty of myths around that we blindly believe and follow. Dental health is a whole science in itself and there is a lot more to it than appears so. Here are some interesting facts that an average person does not know about dental health.

1. The commonly used practice of puttin

g a cap on toothbrush is actually

 more detrimental. The moisture entrapped in the cap favors bacterial growth.

 2. You are not supposed to brush within 6 feet of a toilet. The airborne particles from the flush can travel up to a distance of 6 feet.

 3 .75% of the United States population suffers from some stage of periodontal gum disease.

 4. People who tend to drink 3 or more glasses of soda/pop daily have 62% more tooth decay, fillings and tooth loss than others.

 5. The first toothbrush with bristles was manufactured in China in 1498. Bristles from hogs, horses and badgers were used. The first commercial toothbrush was made in 1938.

 6. Fluoridated toothpastes when ingested habitually by kids can lead to fluoride toxicity.

 7. You are supposed to replace your toothbrush after you have an episode of flu, cold or other viral infections. Notorious microbes can implant themselves on the toothbrush bristles leading to re-infection.

 8. New born babies do not have tooth decay bacteria. Often, the bacteria are transmitted from mother to baby when she kisses the child or blows in hot food/drink before feeding the baby.

Pressure Can Cause Tooth Pain

BARODONTALGIA:Change In Pressure Can Cause Tooth Pain

People who travel in plane and scuba divers often experience discomfort and pain in the upper back tooth or upper sinuses ( maxillary sinuses). the common link in the bodys response to pressure changes – lower air pressure in the cabin of the plane ,increasing pressure when you dive beneath the sea. the pain you feel is because of what is termed ( BAROTRAUMA or BARODONTALGIA).

ALL BODY ORGANS example ( bone,blood,muscle) transmit pressure equally from outside to inside with changes in the ambient(external -ouside the body) pressure.but pressure changes can cause problems in the body structure that are filled with air and that are lined with rigid walls such as the middle ear spaces and the sinuses cavities of the skull. you probably noticed that your ear pops when quickly change in altitude .in an airplane swallowing ,yawning ,moving the lower jaw from side to side or pinching the nostrils closed while forcefully exhaling (known as VALSALVAMANEUVER) are common ways to equalize the pressure. in addition ,sinuses have small openings called as ostia near their lower borders ,which makes it possible to clear with changes in excternal pressure and also to drain fluid that accumulate in them.when inflamed and swollen such as after heat ,cold or flu these mucous producing membrane becomes filled with fluid (responsible for heavy head or awful clogged feeling). it then becomes very difficult and sometimes impossible to equalize the pressure in these structures with changes in external pressure.
