Second Career Change

Posted 6 months ago Hello Everyone, I have noticed the wonderful advice many have provided on this forum, and wondered if I could ask anyone who may have gone what I am about to go through some advice: I am in my 40s seriously considering a nursing career (RN). I am currently taking online classes, and I am receiving financial aid. This is my last year of school; I have a scheduled completion date of sometime in October 2013 - If I continue I will have a BS in English. Not my ideal degree but, this was a way for me to finish my degree that I started when I was younger. It was a goal of mine to be college educated. I have since decided to pursue my passion of becoming a nurse -- my problem: I hear I probably will not qualify for financial aid once I have a BS/ENG. There is no way I can afford to pay out of pocket for nursing school. I was laid off from my corporate job two years ago and have been working as a teacher assistant just to get by until I get a degree. Because I found a job in education fairly quickly, I had considered teaching as my second career, however, after working in education, that has changed my mind. My husband thinks I should switch my major to nursing now so that I will continue to qualify for Fin Aid. Seems like a no brainer to him and to me somewhat. But I just wanted to run this by someone out there who may have been in the same situation and able to maybe provide some insight. I would love to get started now and not have to wait until late 2013 to get this thing started. Thank you for any information! Monique Dean |
