Hair?

Posted 5 months ago So, just a question. Should hair color be a consideration when performing clinicals? I'v searched all of my schools codes as well as the hospital I have clinicals at and have found nothing regarding hair color. "The nurse, in all professional relationships, practices with compassion and respect for the inherent dignity, worth, and uniqueness of every individual, unrestricted by considerations of social or economic status, personal attributes, or the nature of health problems" As stated by the ANA. Is my proctor just being exceptionally conservative and selective or am I right in being miffed that I was sent home for a day regarding my ( i thought) lovely blue hair. I will mention that I have strait A's in all classes and practicums/labs. I understand that everyone's definition of " professional appearance" is different. I did make a valid attempt to change my hair to a "natural" color, this was not good enough as some very mild undertones were still present after applying a permanent black dye. At that time i felt it was a personal grudge and not a "professional standard" issue. Anyways just some honest un-biased opinions would be great! thanks all! |

| Posted 5 months ago Hiya, This is a most interesting subject.. I myself think that professionalism is 1st and foremost.. If I understand this correctly, you were in your clinicals at the time. Although I really don't think that should have happened to you, but in the real world, look does count.. Best of luck to you.. Please keep us posted.. Teresa |
