Make sure you know exactly what it is you want to do. You want to be a teacher - what do you want to teach? You want to be a doctor - what do you want to focus on? Career fields are very broad and you need to do the research, so you can figure out what your primary focus will be. Research can also help you identify what tasks or duties you would be responsible to know.

Get a Game Plan

Once you've done the research, then you need to figure out a game plan. How are you going to accomplish what is necessary to attain your dream job. Write it down, so you can visually see exactly what you will need to do in order to make your dream come true. Since you've already researched your dream job, you'll be able to map out what steps you will need to take in order to get where you want to be.

Be Patient

Remember that things do not happen over night, so you'll need to be patient and pace yourself. You will accomplish your goals and attain your dream job but you have to be realistic as well. Don't get discouraged. Reward yourself when you achieve one of your steps/goals. It doesn't have to be an expensive or elaborate reward but having an incentive to look forward to can be a great motivator.

Be About It

Have a positive outlook because negativity can be consuming and draining. Tell your friends and family about your plan because when you're having an off day you'll have people to support your dream and goals. Never say that you won't get your dream job; stay positive and reinforce yourself with positive remarks.

Sacrafices

Whether it's having less free time because you're working an internship, having less money because you have to pay for college or whatever it may be - remember that there will be sacrafices. Make sure before you decide to pursue your dream job, that you are willing to make the necessary adjustments to get where you want to be. Know that everything will be worth it in the end.

Networking

It is essential to network and be social. You never know when you'll meet someone that can introduce you to a prospective job or opporunity within your field. Keep in contact with key people that you meet along the way and let them know what your ultimate goals are. Allowing people to know your career path will allow them to keep you in mind if an opportunity comes past their desk.

Keep Your Personal Life Private

Check the privacy preferences on your Facebook, Twitter, email or any other social media outlets that you use. Your personal life should stay private. Employers are now checking out candidates on various social media outlets to see what "type" of people they are. Your pictures and posts may seem harmless to you however it's better to be safe than sorry. You don't want to be passed up on a potential job because your friend tagged you in an appropriate posting or someone is offended my something they see.

Make Yourself Stand Out

Since there will always be other candidates for a potential job and/or internship you want to make sure that you stand out amongst the crowd. So make sure your talents are showcased on your resume and/or you let your potential employer your value. Special skills, classes you may have took or experience using a specific software can help to set you ahead of the curve. Also, think about the other jobs you've had and how they could correlate with the path you're headed.

Ask Questions

Always ask questions. It's better to have asked then to never know at all. If you're at an interview ask questions that relate to the job or to your potential tasks and what they could lead to. If you're at school or meeting people within the field, ask questions because you will learn a great deal from others.

Lose Your Fears & Achieve Your Dreams

When Jade's best friend told her about a great job opportunity at her company that would be a perfect fit, Jade got excited. The position paid well, came with great perks, and was ultimately the exact type of work that Jade had always dreamed of doing. “Just send me your resume by Friday,” the friend said. “I’ll make sure the hiring manager puts you at the top of her applicant list.”

Jade had been dreaming of finding a job like this one for years. It would mean more responsibility, but it would also mean more respect and a greater level of job satisfaction. Jade was qualified, experienced and a shoe-in for the gig. She went home that night and started working on her resume.

However, she didn’t get very far. By Friday, Jade still hadn’t sent her friend her resume. Why not? Because she was too scared of rejection.

Have you ever had big goals for yourself, only to let them fall by the wayside? If fear is holding you back from achieving your dreams, here are five tips for facing your fears in order to reach new heights!

Become Aware

Becoming aware of your fears is the first step to figuring out how and where you hold yourself back in life. Sit down and make a list of all of your dreams and hopes for yourself. Next, think critically about the ways in which you stop yourself from going after these dreams. Do you spend your evenings in front of the TV instead of hitting the gym in order to train for that marathon you always meant to run? Take an honest look at your habits so you can change them for the better.

Envision the Future

Start to think about how things will look once you achieve your dreams. Think about how your life will change. Consider what the best possible outcomes would look like. Then analyze the worst possible outcomes. As you do this, you will start to think critically about your fears and, hopefully, your fears will weaken and dissolve so you can look forward to the future.

Make a Plan

You can’t achieve your dreams without actually figuring out how you are going to go after them. We suggest making a plan by breaking down your ultimate goal into ten or more teeny little baby steps. It’s a whole lot easier to go after your dreams by completing small and easy tasks than it is to look at a to-do list that simply says, “Write your novel.” Once you start to take a few baby steps toward your ultimate goal, achieving your dream will get easier and easier.

Remove Distractions

You can’t work towards a goal if you spend every evening out with your friends at happy hour. If you’re really serious about achieving your dreams (like starting your own business), then you need to be firm and create a new schedule that will help you focus. Consider telling your friends that you can only meet them out for drinks or dinner once a week. Since you’re ditching them to go after something that really matters to you, they will likely understand your reason for seeing them less often.

Never Give Up

All good things come in time (but that doesn’t mean they come effortlessly). Make a promise to yourself that you will achieve your goal no matter what. Refuse to let go of your vision just because nothing has happened over two months. If things feel stalled, be patient. Consider why things aren’t changing and then take a second look at your plan. Maybe you need to take baby steps within your baby steps. Be relentless, believe in yourself and never lose faith!
