Posted over 5 years ago Kambria, I wish you the very best ! You are making one of the wisest choices of your life, and for the benefit of your family! Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, worn out and screaming "Woo-hoo"!!!

| Posted over 5 years ago Kambria~you GO GIRL~~ I am so proud of you. If ya happen to slip, get back up, and jump back on the no smoking wagon again...do it as many times as it takes. I view it like weight loss/ or dieting....thats my thing. If ya screw up one day and eat like crap and dont get exercise, or have second helpings, we all get hard on ourselves, throw our hands up in the air, and say we cant do it...well wrong! We all have had a weak moment, but be determined to make immediate effort to get back on track. Don't tell yourself, next week , next month, nex birthday..make an honest attempt to do it then or atl least the next day. Stop smoking programs, just like diet loss programs dont give a rip as to if you have to wait unitl a Monday or 1st of the month to start...right?

Posted over 5 years ago Know what I'm doing to quit? I'm taping a picture of the presidential candidate I hate the most to my refridgerator. If I can't make it two weeks without smoking, I'm donating to their campaign. If that isn't a kick in the pants, I don't know what is. Try it out.

Posted over 5 years ago margaritka-That is an awesome way to quit. It would kill me to have to donate to a candidate not of my choice.

Posted over 5 years ago Hahahahaahaha, I know! It kills my inner patriot :) Furthermore, the "smoking costs money" argument has never really affected me in any direct way, so I figure this might help.

Posted over 5 years ago I am an old smoker from way back when a pack of smokes cost 30cents. I used the Chantix to quit, the support system and all the whole lot. Paid out the a** for the privelage to quit. so after 3 weeks I was cig free and that was the middle of Dec. Good luck Quitters.

Posted over 5 years ago Apparently, the EPA study documenting carcinogenic effects of second-hand smoke, and the various studies that inevitably cited the EPA study, were flawed. So I would just take my grandma's advice, who said that she didn't want her grandbabies to smell like smoke. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9F04E7D71030F933A15754C0A96E958260&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss http://www.davehitt.com/facts/epa.html ...of course, numbers and statistics are no reason to quit/not quit. I'm trying myself... best of luck!

Posted over 5 years ago Why do so many people who have never smoked but lived with a smoker been diagnosed with lung cancer? And women who have never been exposed to asbestos but washed their husbands clothes (who worked with asbestos) become diagnosed with asbestosis?

Posted over 5 years ago Where are your figures concerning the incidence of lung cancer among non-smokers, and where did they come from? If the study you cite is in no way affiliated with the fraudulent EPA experiment, I will rethink my opinion. The most commonly cited survey (EPA) manipulated the data to fit their hypothesis and inflated the margin of error in order to force their data to be statistically significant. Furthermore, the "3,000 deaths" statistic was pulled by going through medical records and automatically counting is as a second-hand death due to room-mates without investigating any other correlative options. I never said that smoking doesn't kill, or that second-hand smoke isn't bad, I just don't appreciate the government using faulty data to manipulate the behavior of citizens and the private sector. It's bad science and it's bad public policy.
