Posted about 2 years ago I'm trying to become an RN and colleges out here are full. I would like to possibly move out of state to one where if I get my license there and move back to CA it would be accepted. I have courses to my name but not enough to be on any list for any programs, so if the college has a quick program that would help me in a quicker way. I'm ready to get into my career and just start working.... My mom is an RN and I spent most of childhood in the hospital b/c of asthma and injures. Many night I would sit at nurses station and watch the codes roll by, and that where I have observed many tragic situations / but also saw miracles happen. I'm determined to become an RN and truly just want to help people.Thank you to any who answer and give me any more information that I'll need, its grealy appreciated! Thank you again! |

| Posted about 2 years ago In the United States, all states should be accecpted by California. You would need to contact the California State Board of Nursing upon wanting to move there, to apply and find out costs... etc Joyce Harrell, RN, OCN

| Posted about 2 years ago Hi, The foll. 24 states have what is called a Nurse Licensure Pact: Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin. That means that a license from 1 of the above states is valid in any of the other 23 states. As you can see, California is not a part of this Pact. So, if you have a RN license from any other state, when you come to work in California through a staffing agency, you'll need to get a CA license, but it will be reimbursed by the agency. So, you can study and pass your exam in any part of the US but still qualify to work in CA, with a license that is quick and easy to get. Hope this clears your doubts, Shabbir Kagalwala

| Posted about 2 years ago the nice thing about if you live in a pact state (i dont but will probably soon d/t my fiance is in the af) is if you live in lets say nc and maintain a residence there you can go work in any other compact state on that license. it is pretty cool. if you look up california bon and look up endorsements it should tell you the process to transfer your oos license to be active in cali. good luck with school :)

| Posted about 2 years ago I had gone to Idaho State University for nursing school and we had a lot of nurses-to-be move up from California to study and do their boards in Idaho. The reason (as I understood it) was that in the 1970-80's, California actually lowered their requirements because of an acute nursing shortage. I do not know if they have recovered from that, but I know in the 80's, someone with CA license did not receive reciprocity with Idaho and a few other states. Check it out before you get too deep in your studies. My friends returned to CA to practice, but maintained an Idaho license, in case they were to move out of CA. Hope that helps.
