Student Nurse Extern question?

I am about to start Nursing school, and I was told by a couple of people who are RNs that I can increase my chances of employment right after graduation, by becoming a Student Nurse Extern. They said I would have to have at least 1 semester of Clinicals done before I can be a SNE. My questions are, how much do Student Nurse Externs typically get paid? I have heard it is between $10-$15 an hour. Also, do Student Nurse Externs work full time? And do they follow a typical nurse shift of 12 hours? Thanks

The US Public Health Service has an extern program.  Google "COSTEP USPHS" (Commissioned Officer Student Training and Education Program).

The pay depends on where you live.  It's typically about what a tech or pct would make.  The hours depend on the particular program and whether or not you're externing during the semester or the summer break.
