Hi!

I just graduated this April of 2011 at University of Perpetual Help-GMA Cavite, Philippines with a BSN Bachelor of Science Nursing.

My husband called the California Board of nursing a few months ago to confirm if I need to take the local boards here in the Philippines because what my clinical instructors said that the requirements now is different from before. So, I wanted to confirm it. And what the nursing board said that NO need to because it will not carry over in any way to USA and is not a requirement for taking the NCLEX in USA. Maybe because I’m a USA green card holder plus I have SSN, also ready to do my USA citizenship this summer. I’m from bay area northern California, Milpitas

I am returning to California in early June and wanted to see if anyone has experience similar to me? Is their anything I need to do here in the Philippines before I return to USA?? So I can apply for the NCLEX with as little hassle as possible.

  1. WHAT DO I NEED TO DO? Anything at my University before I leave?

  2. What do I need to BRING with me? FOR ME TO BE ABLE TO APPLY for NCLEX when I return to USA. Or will the university do everything necessary?

  3. Do you have any idea or suggestions or maybe graduated from GMA or another Philippine university? An can please describe your experience.

Thank you for any ideas and suggestions

@gracee eventhough they said that, I think it would be better if you get your local license first.. It would be so much easier for you toget your eligibility. I applied to board of nursing last year and they denied my application. But most of my friends that has local license got approved.

Hi Teresa! I am a BSN graduate from Bacolod City, Philippines. I am a U.S Citizen since I was a kid and finished my education at the Philippines. Right after graduation my parents sent me back to the US. Now I'm in between choosing which states to take the NCLEX. I live in Illinois and they require a local RN license which I don't have and now I am choosing either Florida and California. I have noticed that you are very active and alert in responding to all our posts and concerns and we are so thankful for that. Knowing this, I guess you have been reading a lot of posts about California. May I ask your opinion? Should I give California a shot? I have been reading all these posts about the many requorements California has and I don't want to end disappointed because I am on my own now and I don't want to waste my money.

Hiya,  It's nice to meet you.. So my opinion is for you to call the places (BON's) that you would like to apply for first and just see what the qualifications are exactly.. I believe in going right to the source instead of the "I thinks"..I appreciate other's expierences, but I think that every one has a different expierence, no matter how slight it may be.  It seems to be that California is extremely dificult, but it also seems to me that it may be the state of acceptance into the field of nursing.. Best of luck to you.. Please keep us posted.. Teresa

Hiya, I'm certainly not an expert on this subject, but it seems to be that you may need more OB and med/surg.. That's only what I have been reading here on the forum... Best of luck.. Please keep us posted.. Teresa
