Posted about 2 years ago Im a nursing student, and I will be graduating in December. I've already started looking for jobs, even travelling nursing which is sounding pretty good to me! The problem is, all job opportunities i've heard about so far require at LEAST 1 year experience in a specific field!! The catch 22, is as a new graduate, how are you supposed to get a job, when all of them require experience?? Any suggestions or comments for new grads looking for ANY job experience, and if so, how do you get that experience in the specific field you want?? (ex, ED, OR, PACU, PICU, etc??) I mean, it's not like us newcomers can be too picky right???

| Posted about 2 years ago Try looking at the ideas in the New Nurse section here on Nursing link. You can find it on the home page of the site. This can be very frustrating for you as a new grad. But also, you don't know what the market will be like in December. Maybe some things will open up by then. Joyce Harrell, RN, OCN

| Posted almost 2 years ago Dear AnaLee, I know where you are coming from. I graduated LPN school in Feb. 2011 and I'm still looking for a position. I have had several interviews, but nothing as of yet. As you said, most are looking for 1 year of experience, but as Herbal Nurse said, who knows how December will look. You may want to look into volunteering at your local clinic to keep skills current and up-to-date, you gain valuable experience. Look here on Nursing Link, I know you will find some different ideals for new grads without a job, I know I did. GOOD LUCK and GOD BLESS!!!!!!! |
