Moving and Positions

It is the only reason for the move, make sure things actually are different in the area you are moving to.

As care shifts out of the hospital and into alternative care settings, so too are jobs shifting out of the hospital. This is a large part of the reason for the tight hospital job market. Even though you may have been told you must start in the hospital, that simply is not the case.

If you move, make contact with local chapters in your new area (even before you move), such as the American Nurses Association, and the American Association of Ambulatory Care Nurses Once you get to the new area, attend local chapter meetings, even as a guest at first. Do some informational interviewing

As the above referenced article suggests, you also can use social media (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook) to network. Networking is a powerful way to find a job and face-to-face networking is the most powerful of all.

Also watch for any nursing career fairs in the area you wish to move to. Attend these events if you can, even before you move, to make contacts and connections and gather information and leads about many different employers
