Alright, so here's what I got. I've graduated high school, and started college but I'm looking into nursing. Eventually, I would like to become a RN and work in the ER of a hospital, hopefully UConn (which is close to where I live.) My boyfriend's mother is a medical assistant, and she says that, in her opinion, I should become a medical assitant instead of a LPN because it takes the same amount of training, and in CT the only thing a LPN can do that a MA can't is give injections and medicine. Now, what I would like to know, preferrably from nurses in CT or the surrounding area, is which one would be a smarter choice if I would like to work my way up to becoming a RN? Which pays more, which is more in-demand, things like that. I'd really appreciate the help.

P.S. I've already started looking into schools, and have made an appointment with a school that offers specific programs for both MA and LPNs.

MAs are certified thru AAMA and LPNs are licensed thru board of nursing. ther is a big difference as where you can work also. MAs can give meds and shots, they have to work under a doctors insurance. LPNs can get their own malpractice insurance and can do just about everything  a RN can do except the initial assessment, IV push meds, and give blood products to name a few. as a CMA and LPN I have been through it all and going thru more now as a RN student. good luck with your decision
