I interviewed for a Director of Wellness position. Whe I asked where the personal care home was. I was tols "we are not telling anyone where it is until the second interviews."  When I asked them what the hours where I was given vauge answers.   Advice please. Keeping your personal care home a secret on an interview seems like they are hiding something. Strange righjt?

I have had strange interviews in the past, but you got me beat big time.

No, never heard of anyone keeping the facility or hours a "secret" during interviews, especially for a Director-level position.

Just sounds a bit weird.  If they would have offered you an explanation, that would be different, but they did not.

All that I can think is: I would not go alone on a tour with them.

To add I applied for the position via career builder. They did not have the site posted, however, I applied for other positions the same way. When I was called for the interview I was given all the info I needed. I will stay clear. Very odd they would not want to tell a prespective employee their location.  Very odd.

maybe theyre paranoid that you or the facility will go around them and cut them out of their commission?

Very interesting foum.. Hmmm. I'm thekind of employee that interviews the employer to see if they also have any thing to offer me along with a salary.. If they are very vague, trust your instincts and don't be afraid to tell them that you are uncomfortable with this interview Crazy things go on these days and remember you are responsible for your own actions in a court of law... Good luck, Do your homework and investigate the facility before you go there for an interview... Lots of luck,Teresa  Keep us  posted, the mystery is intriguing... TeresahRN

"There have been too many interviews over the years to recall," the most notably unusual",though I believe that

some prospective employers should refrain from referring to the applicants as," the next victim",aloud within earshot

of others.Word travels fast, thereafter, and many a nurse," avoids returning there".

I can not investigate the company because the interview was at an outside office. Not the actual personal care home itself.

The person who interveiwed me only gave me her cell phone #. I am having trouble finding anything on the address.   If they do not call me back for a second interview it will be no loss.  But, if they do I would like to find out what the top secret is.

Sounds like you should run, I know its not the same as your situation but I went on a job interview for a company that does "marketing" for disney, leapster and other companies that gear toward children and was told to come back the next day to work with an experienced employee and see how I like it.  So I show up the next day dressed in business attire, there were about 50 others there and we were split up into groups.  So my buddy comes and gets me and says to meet her out front.  Needles to say when she pulls up her car is filled with toys.  We drive across town to a office building and begin soliciting these items.  we stopped at every office building and gas station, daycare, etc to solicite these items. OMG, I was stuck with her all day because my car was on the other side of town.  As with your case I could not find any inforamtion on the company to do my home work on them before going to the interview.  This was one of the craziest experiences Ive ever had

" In relation to the solicitation of toys, here and there....how sure are you that the merchandise was not stolen nor

had illegal contraband within them? I definitely would be very wary of riding in cars with others, especially if this,

" is only an interview"? Safety comes first; remember, you can always replace the job, lives are priceless".

In my career, I have interviewed in Immigration & Naturalization Service, Bureau of Prisons and US Marshalls Service.  I have been invited to interview for CIA, FBI and DEA.

ALL OF THEM, are above board and interview without cloak-and-dagger crap.

Some employers would rather have Head-Hunters vet any prospective employee (they would rather pay someone than do it themselves).

That is NOT FAIR to you as a professional nurse to be interviewed by an interviewer who is not a nurse working at the facility.  They can probably only tell you what is on the job application and nothing about the facility, it's vision or it's corporate culture.

If the second interview does not give you anything more to go on, I would probably walk (I have walked away from offers in the past).

As Teresa said, the interview is a two-way process and you show be interviewing them for facts, as much as they interview you.  If they are acting weird, spooky, evasive, etc.,  to me, that sounds as though it may be their corporate culture (the way they operate all the time).

Best of luck with the job hunt and please give us follow-up on this.  Thanks,  Tom  (drtomconrad)

I would also report this to career builder (although it was a subsource who you were contacted by) as well as the better business bureau, etc. if you remain increasingly uncomfortable.  you may be able to protect someone else from an unsavory situation.  if theyre on the up and up, they have nothing to be offended by in an investigation.
