Hey every one :)

I am currently a medical assistant going to school to become a registered nurse. Iv'e always been the baby of the whole clinic staff at both jobs that i've had so far. At first its all good, as soon as that question pops up "so how old are you"  they start acting different. I love being my age of 19 but some how i always get one or two girls that always look at me and make me feel that I dont know anything because of my age. I always try and ignore them and go on with my buisness but either way it still bothers me. I mean i have a 2 going on 3 year old baby and they always have theire two sence to put in about something. Like start a conversation about teen pregnancy or something not directIy at me but, you know how sometimes you just know that conversation is meant about you or something. I graduated high school at 17, as a medical assistant at 18 and I'm now going to college for an associate's degree, hopefully my bachelor's degree after that. For a 19 year old i think i got a good head on my shoulder. Most teens don't know what to do or their just acting dumb in the streets. I mean don't get me wrong once they get me mad to that point their gonna need to find a way to shut me up!  So i just wanted to ask anyone if they ever had a similar problem to mine ?

Dear Vericka,

Don't give them a second look! You do have your head on right, and for a 19-year old that's a sturdy job you're doing. Just tell them to butt out and if you need advice, you know how to ask. Anyway, GOOD LUCK and GOD BLESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I read your accomplishments.  Be proud of that.  You are off to a great start.  Some of them didn't graduate high school until they were 18-19 y.o.  and you are working AT THE SAME LEVEL as those who are older.  Let them think what they want.

I had a similar start to yours.  I was a Navy Hospital Corpsman, graduated boot camp and Hospital Corps school, worked in Aviation Medicine, was the Company Corpsman for 2 Marine OCS companies and was senior field corpsman for Marine TBS at Quantico before my 20th birthday.

You probably have more experiance than they do. Dazzle them with your brilliance.

Some people think age makes them superior somehow.  It doesn't.  The first response that comes to mind my mind is: "You're that old?  Must be a slow learner"  :-)

Probably need to be more diplomatically than that, but at least you can think it.

Keep up the good work and don't let the jerks get you down.  Just remember, you'll be graduating when you are as old as they are now :-)
