I havebeen working as an assistant administrator for  about a year.  I need advice please.  I am never includied in any decision making. When our corporate manager is in our meeting she schedules meeting with my boss and  and not me.  My boss does not teach me anything. I still do not know alot about the job.  I am trying to do the best job possible, but, not knowing the ins and the outs of the job has me frustrated.  Every thing I do is redone by my boss.  I had such high hopes about the position at the start. I feel if I am not included in decision  making etc. then I do nor belong there.  I have an interveiw on Tuesday. I really do not want to job hop. But, I am frustrated and fell insulted that my boss feels she has to rewrite everything I do. Just venting. Please some advice.

Hiya, It seems that your director doesn't want to give up any of her position..Maybe she's afraid that you will do better..Who hired you? Did they give you a job description? Is it posible for you to set up a meeting with your director and ask her exactly what she hired you for. While you at it, ask her how could do your assignment to prevent her from rewriting your work?I don't know where you live, but in Florida it's a right to work state, however your boss could have you terminated for any reason what so ever.. So tread lightly..I would go on the interview on Tuesday and see what happpens with that position..Don't worry about job hopping, all you are doing is try ing to use your skills more productively. If you do get another position, I'd explain to your boss that you didn't feel that you were working up to your capacity.. Welljust remember to be nice.. She may have to give you a letter of reccomedation..I want to leave you now with a newlook on any posistion you do obtain.. There's a difference between a job or a career. I'm sure you aare looking for a career, so go out and get it. These are only suggestions for you..What you do has to bee your own decision.. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors. God Bless you also, please keep in touch..Teresa

Teresa had a load of good thoughts and ideas and she is right.

Go to your interview.  Be nice to the interviewer and be nice about your current employer.  If asked why you are looking, you can say that:

(1) I have heard good things about you and wanted to at least talk to you to check it out myself.

(2) Upward mobility is stifled by my higher-ups being happy were they are and I feel I may have hit a ceiling for advancement.

Don't lie, but don't bad mouth either.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Follow-up with your director and ask for a review of your duties.  "I must have misunderstood the exact duties when I was hired, as you are correcting my work so frequently."  "Can you help me learn how to do it the way you want it done?"  "Would my going to the supervisor's meetings help me do my job and fill in for you if you are gone on vacation or sick?"

Practice your interview and your meeting with your boss with someone.  It is amazing that when you say what you are thinking out-loud, it doesn't  sound quite right.  The other person can help you.  Does not matter if they know your boss or not.  The best critic I had for nursing papers was not my mother the nurse.  It was my dad the nuclear engineer.  He did not know my field, so he did not/could not sugar-coat anything.

Please let us know how it is going.

" If you are in the Administrative Position, there are many of us who are experts at observing and respecting those who show

appreciation of others, lest be leary when the bosses," glove-up and await the bell to ring".( Yes,word does travel fast !)

Remembering the Titanic movie? Be nice to those you meet on your way up...you just might need them ...on your way down.

Thank you for your comments. I have decided that this job is not worth the every day disfunction.  I was just written up because a client had a low sodium level. He was upset, I explained to him that if he complies with his fluid restriction hopefully  his level will go back to normal. I also explained to him if his doctor feels it is needed sometime a sodium tablet is  prescribed.  I was written up because I should not have told him that.  It was not up to me to give him advice.   When I was on call I received a all that a client refused his medicine.  Five hours later he wanted them. I told them not to give it due to his refusal and it is well past the window.  I was told that I guided the employee wrong. What a bunch of crap.   I will go back to private duty and work with ill children.  I do not need the abuse.

" In response to the unfair treatment that you received from your employer, I too have seen some,"off the wall",judgement calls

made, whereby," Nurses are made to look-like the Bad Guys, esp.when allied healthcare staff does not support you and you are,

"literally ridiculed by the patient,( monikered ,"Idiot,Warden and and verbally-abusive terms,etc..") The rule of thumb for all meds:

** If the med is not vitally-essential,( Coumadin,Insulin,Beta-Calcium channel blocker,Seizure med and PRN.),if they refuse, they refuse.

Is it not the patient's right to be informed about the medical decision, regarding their care? If the refuse to comply,it is their right

to do so,just as long as ,"it is documented in their medical record".

It is just not that issue I am dealing with. I have this nonlicensed person questioning my nursing judgement.  My work is always rewritten.  I have never in my nursing career ever been second guessed. Never was any of my documentation rewritten. I am never told anything she just goes behind my back to our boss. I never was or will be given the chance to explain myself.  She has serious issues and I will not put my nursing license on the line.   This comes form a women who pops Ativan just because her computer will not work.
