Canadian Nurse trying to work in USA

Posted almost 2 years ago I am a Canadian RPN trying to get a license in Texas. I have my green card and had a CES(course evaluation service) done by CGFNS and sent to the Texas board of nursing. They have informed me that certain courses required in the US weren't a part of my curriculum in Canada. No one seems to be able to tell me how to get these missing courses. The colleges I have spoken with will only allow me to enroll for the entire LVN program as opposed to enrolling in just the classes I need to take the NCLEX. Has anyone been through this that can help? Thanks! |

| Posted almost 2 years ago Hiya, I'm not sure of your plight exactly but this is what I would do...Do you need further CEU's or further classes? Maybe you can take them on line.. Try that out. If that doesn't work, then find a community hospital in you area and ask them for their assistance. I know this can be done, I have many friends here from Canada that are working nurses. I would also call the BON of TX., and ask them exactly what you need to take. Are they academics or nursing classes.. | Posted almost 2 years ago Teresa, I've called the BON of TX and they reviewed my report from CGFNS. They told me that I need 380 theory hours and 165 clinical hours. I have called all the local schools and North Central Texas college for the online program(that's the only one that I can find that only offers the LVN program and not the LVN to RN program). They have all told me that I need to just start the whole program over again. I would rather not do the whole program over again. I tried to call the local hospitals but they told me that I needed to be enrolled in a school program. It's nice to meet you too!! :) |
